The story is not set in a specific time period, but it seems like it takes in the spring season.

Problem: CJ feels disappointed and curious about why he doesn't have things that others do-- like a nice car or fancy gadgets, and he wonders why they have to go to places like a soup kitchen.

Events/Plot:

1. CJ and Nana leave church and wait for the bus.

2. CJ complains about the rain and why they don’t have a car.

3. On the bus, Nana encourages CJ to look for beauty around them.

4. They meet different passengers who help CJ see the world differently.

5. CJ begins to appreciate the little things he notices on the ride.

6.
Why I selected this book to represent diversity:

I chose the book Last Stop on Market Street to represent diversity because the story shows how people from different backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life come together in one community. The main characters, CJ and his Nana, travel through the city and meet people who look, live, and act differently, yet each person adds something special to the world around them. This book highlights diversity in broad terms and not just race or culture, but differences in age, economic status, and lifestyle.
