Multinational corporations (MNCs) positively influence globalization by driving economic growth, creating jobs, and spreading technology and innovation across borders. They help integrate global markets and contribute to the development of infrastructure in host countries. However, MNCs can also have negative impacts, such as exploiting cheap labor, driving local businesses out of competition, and influencing political systems for their own benefit. In addition, they may contribute to environmental degradation if they prioritize profits over sustainable practices.

What surprised me most about MNCs and their impact on the environment is the extent to which their operations can lead to significant ecological degradation, despite their claims of sustainability. Many multinational corporations prioritize profit over environmental responsibility, resulting in practices that contribute to deforestation, pollution, and waste. Additionally, their global supply chains can complicate accountability, making it challenging to assess and mitigate environmental harm effectively

Positives: The introduction of new business models, for example, with the introduction of McDonalds to India, it opened up the field for many more MNCs to franchise here.

Negatives: The presence of MNCs can undermine local businesses, as for example the introduction of McDonalds resulted in cultural erosion, due to westernisation, as there were alterations of lifestyles and cultural preferences, reducing cultural uniqueness, and increasing the competition for local businesses.

MADHAV DUTT

QUESTION 1

Positive

Development in the country

Cultural exchange between the country and western influence

MNCs can increase competition in domestic markets, leading to lower prices, better quality products

Negative

Exploitation of workers

Cultural homogenization with introduction of western goods.

Loss of jobs

QUESTION 3

Yes definitely, both globalization and environmental sustainability can coexist. The both terms since the start have been going hand in hand, and have been trying to coexist together. The fault of this not taking place falls in the laps of this multinational organisations which have forgetten what the roots of globalization was, it was supposed to be a way to bring cultures and countries together to foster interdependence and not a medium to partake in unethical practices. Therefore i believe that if a company is willing and able to take proper ethical considerations and morals into account before taking up globalization, both can and will coexist.
