This site FCRR (Florida Centre for Reading Research) has FREE (which is becoming harder to find online these days!) literacy centres for students from pre-K to grade 5. It is definitely worth exploring. I have used some of the phonological awareness games during daily 5 in the past.
http://www.fcrr.org/resources/resources_sca.html

Catherine

The activities on this site would work best for grades 2 and up however some alterations could make some usable for younger grades.

This website gives a framework on how to run centres. It talks about making sure the centres have goals specific for your students. It describes a variety of literacy centres.
https://learningattheprimarypond.com/centers/learning-at-the-primary-pond-literacy-centers-kindergarten-first-second-grade/
I am also including a link to the Daily Five Cafe. As the website states "The Daily 5 is a framework for structuring literacy time so students develop lifelong habits of reading, writing, and working independently." In the Daily 5 framework students choose centres (Read to self, work on writing, read to someone, listen to reading and word work) to work at independently. The teacher can then work with students in small groups or independently.
https://www.thedailycafe.com/daily-5
Evelyn

I absolutley love literacy centres with a Daily 5 format. I have used and seen it be used for a number of years now and I love the way it promotes indepdent learners who take ownership of their learning while allowing classroom teachers to conference and work with reading groups.

I am working towards differentiating my Daily 5 stations so that their is choice within the various groupings.

Below are links to a few different activities for each station.

1. Read to Self -
https://learningattheprimarypond.com/centers/learning-at-the-primary-pond-literacy-centers-kindergarten-first-second-grade/

This is an indepdent reading centre that involves reading to self. What i like about "learning at the primary pond's" addition is that she has a panflet that allows students to jot down thoughts, questions and ideas that they can work through after reading.
I do think that reading to self is an important task and that writing should not take away from this station. Providing sticky notes for students to put into their books is also a simple way to do this in the classroom with minimal prepration.

2. Read to Someone -
http://toristeachertips.blogspot.ca/2013/07/daily-5-read-to-someone-lots-of-freebies.html

This site is great because it provides variations of reading to someone. Students can read the same basal text (two of the same copies). Students do not need to be at the same level for this activity as the stronger reader can help guide the other.
I also like the idea of reading poetry together that perhaps you practiced as a class.
What stood out for me was the idea of having students reading a book of choice to one another. This means that students at various levels can be partners and take turns listening to reading.

3. Word Work
https://www.pinterest.ca/explore/word-work-activities/
There are so many different options for word word.
Most recently I have been incorrporating words their way into the word work program.

I also think digital resources like spelling city are great additions to word work activities.

for my more advanced students I use word work as an opporutnity for them to build their vocabulary. I have them go through the books they are reading and finds words they dont know the meaning of. They then look them up in a dictionary and create a sentence of their own using the definition.

4. Work on Writing
I really like how open ended work on writing can be.
I allow my students to write in their journals on a topic of choice.
I also provide them story folders where they can write their own stories.
My favourite thus far has been creating a scene on a back table (toy animals, jungle theme etc.) and have students spend time at the table before they are asked to go write (writers workshop style).

Ravneet
