         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Som tam or Green papaya spicy salad is one of the famous Thai dishes. Originally, som tam is a traditional food of Lao ethnic people who live in the Mekong river Basin of what is now north-eastern of Thailand and Lao PDR. Som means sour and tam means pound, so in the traditional sense som tam refers to the pounding of seasonal citrus fruits with other ingredients such as chili, tomatoes, fermented fish, fish sauce and sugar.<br><br>&nbsp;Nowadays, most people use papaya as a main ingredient instead of citrus fruits. Historians explain that papaya was used in som tam first time by Chinese-Lao people who live in Chao Phraya Plain, present-day central of Thailand, no more than 200 years ago. After that papaya spicy salad became a popular food and spread in many part of Southeast Asia<br><br>The variety of&nbsp; Thai ingredients applied in Somtom nowadays makes the appreciated taste for the person who once experienced to try and this menu has been recognized as one of the most popular Thai main dishes in both celebration or ordinary occasion<br>till nowadays</div>]]></description>
