We chose the "Recovery of the Great Barrier Reef". The goal of this citizen science project is to protect the coral reefs from a disease called black band and to unravel the mystery of coral disease. Approximately 19% of the coral reefs around the world have been destroyed by diseases. If there’s no help towards these coral reefs, another 15% could be wiped out within 10 to 20 years. These corals reefs help the marine life stabilized and if most of them were to die, it will affect the marine life dreadfully. The increase in global ocean warming is inevitable, including the extinction of many marine species if the coral reefs continue to die. The research area is located 739 miles northwest of Brisbane, Orpheus Island. The Orpheus Island is only 11 kilometers long and approximately 1 kilometer wide. Most part of the island is a national park, you can find a wide variety of reef habitats, clam gardens, submerged indigenous cultural sites, and recent shipwrecks. Several reptiles and mammals can be found on the island. The underwater gardens of the surrounding coral reefs are home to 1,100 species of fish The volunteers go on 90-minute dive to take a look at the corals for any signs of black band disease. Then they mark the corals that are infected and take pictures to research. They test the diseased coral with different environmental factors such as light, temperature, pH, and nutrients to see the its response.

The expedition we chose is "South African Penguins". The goal of this project is to help a team of Earth-watch scientists to watch seabirds on the Robben Island and help reduce the impact of the various threats to the fragile environment. This project will help conserve their habitat and protect their population. The research is important because ninety percent of the penguin population on Robben Island has disappeared over the past 100 years and this project tries to understand why penguin’s population decline rapidly and to develop well-informed strategies to increase their chances of survival. Scientists are also testing new research techniques to help protect South African penguins. The research will take place on Robben Island located in Table Bay a few miles from Cape Town. This place is remark for its breeding of sites for seabirds. The researcher will be working with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters climate during the stays in the area. Volunteer will be tracking down penguins’ nesting area, taking picture of their unique pattern on their chest, at the same time they will be curing the injured penguins. Those who were assigned on March and April will start their record on where penguins are nesting and select the penguin pairs to studied throughout the season. Treatment of penguin will mostly occur after they finish bree ding which will be in the month of August and July.

We choose "Conserving endangered rhinos in South Africa " for the citizen science project. The goal of this citizen science project is helping scientist to study the impact of rhinos on their environment and how it could be affected by their disappearance. Study rhino behavior, record their positions, monitor their feeding habits, and assess their relationship to their environment. This research is important because little is known about rhino's environmental value. How do Rhinos impact their ecosystem? This research is also important because rhinos were killed everyday for poaching their horn. It is unknown what impact does de-horning has on rhino. The research areas are private reserve and national parks. African savanna with trees and thick grasses. Scientists are now trying to get volunteers to go into the country to do behavioral observation to get the information on how to save the rhino. They will record the location on a individual rhino to observe their geographic area and study their behavior. Scientist will also record the vegetation in the areas that they live in.

We chose "UNEARTHING THE ANCIENT SECRETS OF ANGKOR IN CAMBODIA". The goal of this citizen science project is to find out how individuals in Angkor manage to thrive while facing dramatic climate changes and the reason why they still living in this area even after their political capital city moved to south. Angkor was home to the world’s largest pre-industrial city and even after tremendous natural disasters have taken place, the place was never abandoned. By discovering the way how people in that region manage to live there with their strategies and techniques, scientists and ordinary citizens like us will gain knowledges relating to environmental changes and adaptable strategies that help to maintain the sustainability of individuals, household, and communities in times of crisis. . The research area will be taking place in Battambang, the second largest city in Cambodia and situated along the Sangkae River surrounded by historical architectures such as French Colonial architecture. Additionally, we will have a chance to interact with townspeople while excavating on the lands or farms which are own by them. Scientists will corporate with Cambodian archaeologists both from the APSARA Authority and from the Royal University of Fine Arts. With the help of the local archaeologists, scientists will able assist climatic and environmental procedures and the daily adaptations of the non-elites.

The expedition we choose is "EXPLORING LIONS AND THEIR PREY IN KENYA". The purpose of this research project is to find preys for lions in Kenya but also to preserve the wild life at the same time. This research is important because the population of lions in the world are vulnerable. The population of lions residing in Africa is roughly about 20,000 which is little compared to the population of lions in the past years. The cause of deaths for the lions include being hunted and also starvation. So, we need to take into consideration of how to make the lives of lions improve. The research area takes place in Kenya which is located at the east front of Africa. The location is not that easy to travel because the destination lies on the equator. But there is a group called the MPCP (Mara Predator Conservation Programme) currently working there researching and preserving wildlife. So it makes the new researchers and scientists easier to come in and discover their intentions. The wildlife in Kenya is amazing too which is a majority of wildlife residing in Kenya due to it's great savannas and their grassy plains which attracts most of the animals. Also most of the lions' population lives in Kenya. The scientists on a typical day brainstorms ideas and also the outcomes of the ideas. The scientists would go out and observe the behaviors of the lions and also their preys to see what their connections are. They usually track lions by using radio collars so they can exactly decide what the lions' favorite prey is and how they approach them. The other techniques they use to track lions include camera-trap and also monitor them, meaning they record all sightings of them. Sometimes the scientists would walk on foot around the research area to observe the They would take those research data into account and come up with a plan which could leave the lions with abundant food supplies. They'd record the outcomes and by doing that they would come up with the best idea which would ensure the healthiness of lions that reside in Kenya.

They are the top predators that mostly affects on the ecosystem and the rest of food chain that interaction are called trophic cascades. The research is important because the killer whales play the vital role of the food chain in Ireland. They can fluctuate the population of prey species. By studying the nature of them, scientists can collect the important information to protect them and can help the ecosystem too. Data collection through the observations helps the scientists to know the higher level of pollutant in Killer whales bodies. about their diets and records their genetic materials. The research area is in Vestmannaeyjar in the Western islands, an archipelago in the south of Iceland. It is also known as the wild haven and has many species of marine animals.Scientists conduct the orientation and briefly explain what they are going to do to their members.

We chose "Protecting Peru's Giant Manta Rays." The goal of this citizen science project is to observe manta rays in order to better understand what they need for survival. The giant manta rays are one of the largest fishes in the world. It can grow up to 23 feet wingtip-to-wingtip and weigh up to 3,000 pounds. The research is important because it collects information to help protect giant manta rays from fishery interactions and global change. Researches will be able to have a better understanding of the manta rays and will build public awareness and appreciation of marine resources. The research area is located in the Tumbes Region in Peru where it has the highest richness in marine species. The area has the revenge temperature around 75 degrees Fahrenheit with rainy season from January to March. Researchers will be doing a couple of tasks in the field. They will snorkel and take underwater videos and photographs. They will also set nets fro plankton sampling, conduct plankton haul and help collect tissue samples from manta rays. Lastly, they will be collecting sights of other marine megafauna such as whale sharks, dolphins and sea turtles that will help scientists gain a more full picture of these marine ecosystems.

We chose "Tracking Sea Turtles in The Bahamas". The goal of this citizen project is to help scientists and researchers to discover the best ideal habitats for the endangered species and protect them from extinction and on the other note, the extinction of the sea turtles can affect the marine environment as they maintain the balance of the sea weeds. As sea turtle are critical to the ecosystem and has been there for million years, the organizer of this citizen project, Annabelle Brooks is willing to explore about the turtles more in depth. The research is important because it helps scientists determine the reason why the sea turtle are migratory and why they forage where they do and what certain reasons that draw the movement of sea turtles to a particular place. Before they reach their adulthood, sea turtles feed on the sea grass and the habitats are not constant because they wander around on place to another either in a group or as an individual. So scientists are now to observe the physical features of those habitats and check the progress on how those sea turtles travel to a new habitat and why they leave after a good amount of time. It’s significant to keep track of their movement because that is the best way to protect the endangered sea turtles from getting extinct. This project will take place in Bahamas, a nation of about 3000 islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The team will be covering three distinct locations which are Eleuthera Island with the most beautiful beaches and not crowded. Abaco Island, which is the natural center for research for diving and snorkeling. Andros Island, the largest island in the Bahamas, mainly known for scuba diving and snorkeling. The team has variety tasks to to in a day, first they will meet up and eat breakfast then they will start their journey. Researchers and some of the volunteers will immerse into the water and catch sea turtles in the water and tag, measure, and weight the turtle. The team will also set up the net and wait for turtles to be caught. If someone is not a swimmer, he/she will be on the boat helping researchers collect data. One of the important part of this project is to explore and collect data of the habitats. The crew will measure the depth of water and temperature and also record GPS to keep track of the locations. Lastly the crew will watch over for predators, they will set up the baited remote underwater video cameras and look for the predators of sea turtles. At the end of the day, the team will have dinner together, and discuss their experiences in the field.

The expedition we choose is "KILLER WHALES AND THEIR PREY IN ICELAND". The goal of this citizen science project is to understand the potential threats of the killer whales and to protect them from extinction that is mostly depend on the prey species. And start both land or boat work that is depend on weather. The next day, conducting the survey and analyzing datas such as widescan survey, behavioral observation and preparation for and processing of biopsy samples.

Penguins are the coolest species of birds which are unable to fly. They live in climates that range from the warm equator to the freezing Antarctica. Researchers and citizen like us don’t exactly know how penguins gather as it take actions beneath the deep ocean.Citizen Science will always be applied to us as citizens like us form a research collaboration to address real world problem that are destroying our community. Me and my partner decided to take a breathtaking trip to be one of the first people to get a glimpse on how fascinating are penguins under the sea and how they typically survive in Patagonia. The goal of this citizen science project is to join a team of scientists making cutting edge use of technology to solve this mystery, which could lead us to conserve these birds in tuxedos! Penguins in Patagonia are along the coast and researchers have found that penguins that are accommodating in the north and south of the local colony are fed healthier. This research is important especially in Patagonia because the penguins in the center of the coast have to efficiently swim more further to catch their distant prey which also shows us that the baby penguins are unadministered for a long period of time. Using the skills of citizen science can give us many informations and data to see if government protection is required for the penguins to be safe. The research area itself is desired to be rich in wildlife with rocky shores to provide a home for the species of seabirds. Unexpectedly, Patagonia,Argentina has more penguins than people where Patagonia region is home to only around 2 million people. We will also be working in Parque Interjurisdiccional Marino Costero Patagonia Austral, an coastline that has preserved much of the area’s untamed beauty. A daily life in the field where the first team will pick 50 breeding pairs and will safely attach tracking devices that the record the penguins every move in the water.Once we get the data, we will collect and analyze those data from the tracking devices. The team will stay in small shared cabins overlooking the sea with shared bedrooms in the small Argentine town of Camarones with packed lunch during the day and late dinner around 9pm with a delightful cuisine of seafood. Lastly, Patagonia is a peaceful destination and once you keep quite a distance from the penguins, you'll find yourself warmly welcome.

We choose “TOUCANS, PARROTS, AND OTHER WILDLIFE IN COSTA RICA'S FORESTS.” The goal of this citizen science is to help the balance of the biodiversity in Costa Rica tropical rain forest which are mixed use agricultural fields and some of which have been abandoned, while other are still in used for crops or cattle. The location was located in Las Cruces,Coto Brus,Costa Rica. These forest are filled with many different type of wildlife with 400 different type of birds, 2000 different plant species and 100 different mammal species living it that region. But if their habitat keep shattering and destroy the species living in the forest are at the risk. This research is important because those forest are the homes to many species and have the direct impact on the global warming. Species such as toucans, parrots and other tropical species that live in the forest help the the spread more seed in the forest. Those species consume and disperse seeds which help the forest regenerate. But now haunting and habitat loss make those species not to be able to disperse seeds which cause costa rica biodiversity in danger.Scientist told that these tree in the forest hold secrets to improve the pliability of the forest ecosystem. Rural local landowners and farmers start to plant fruit trees on their own land. Scientist that wanted to save the biodiversity of the animals in costa rica, are now forming a team to observing wildlife with fruiting trees, monitor wildlife ,survey for fruiting trees and collect seed from forest and plants in greenhouse to store those species. These team include scientist and volunteer who are normal citizen around the world. After the team finish exploring the forest they went back to the field station have some dinner and so some discussion for this project. This research is about how to save biodiversity in costa rica tropical forest which are in danger.

Scientists are tracking the diet of the Killer whales as to better figure out their behavior their threats and how to neutralize these threats to preserve theses killer whales in Iceland. This study of the Killer whale's diet is the first extensive study to focus on the killer whale's diet, it's survival and overall it's behavior. It's an island in Southern Iceland, half of the island is covered by a volcanic eruption, but its a safe haven for animals as there is plenty of biodiversity to be found on the island. If you were a scientist on the island first of all you would be searching for killer whales with binoculars. You would also help by studying the behavior of these whales after you spotted them. You will help the scientists collect some of the DNA from the killer whale especially from it's skin.
