Connect:

I think everything going on just supports my opinions. We’ve learned in the past that single stories are assumptions made by only a little part of a person, heritage, religion, etc. People all over the world are closing each other out and being selfish instead of helping their own species. Especially us Americans we are acting so foolish among this virus. People have been calling the Covid-19 virus the “Chinese Virus” even our own president. It is forcing all of the blame on one country. We are going outside and connecting with people for no good reason when we should be inside quarantining. So, in conclusion, we all are the virus and we are all making it worse.

Extend:
With everything going on we need to work together instead of pushing others out. Some people are using this as an excuse to discriminate. They are assuming because of the way someone looks that they are dangerous. These people are not only discriminating but they sometimes are psychically abusing Asians people. It makes me wonder where all this hatred comes from. Especially with Christians, we are told love each other not hate. We should accept the things we cannot change.

Challenge:
All of these ideas do complicate how I view racism. I say this because all around the world Asians are being discriminated even nurses and doctors who are trying to help solve and cure the virus. I don’t understand how people can be so cruel for a reason that isn’t even valid. It makes me think about how and what I can do to help. I may not be able to control someone’s actions but I know I can send a message out. Trying my best to get to people and help them see things as I view them. I understand that everyone has their own opinions but sometimes they can be wrong and have punishments.

Connect-
The ideas and information I have already learned connect back to what I already knew because a lot of my former knowledge come from stories just like this. There are many instances were people are judged because of where they come from, even though it does not affect the actual situation itself. It is also making a stereotype that just because they are Asian they must have the virus or relate back to it, which is not always the case.

Extend-
These ideas broaden my thinking because this is something that is happening at this time and where I am in the world. Sometimes it is hard to understand a story because it happened long ago or did not happen in your time, but this is very real and terrible to think how they are being treated right around me.

Challenge-
They do not challenge my understanding of racism they help me understand it better. This is because this is something I am actually experiencing happening to others besides just something I hear about or read about in class or on the news. I actually can better understand how people affected are feeling because I know it is happening right now.

Connect - All the information connects because all the racism is based on single stories and stereotypes. I already know that the Jews were discriminated against by religion because of rumors that lead to single stories. Now I also know that Asians are being discriminated against because of something that happened where they live. Everything connects by something that the people around them said or did. So they stereotype everyone that looks or believes in the same thing the people that said or did something. Everything I have learned connects to what I know.

Extend - Now I can see that people don’t always look at the facts they look at the rumors. Maybe because it’s easier to blame someone than themselves. It’s all based on fear they just need someone to let the fear out on. No matter what they should look at the facts and see that everyone is equal. It shows how people rely on single stories to tell everything about a person. They have a single story and then stereotype the rest of the person based upon that. All of the information has broadened my thinking about racism showing it relies on people and how they think.

Challenge - The new information challenges and complicates my understanding. It challenges my understanding because now we are in a newer time and have more information. Since we are in a newer time people should have learned from the past. We have more information showing us that there is no need for racism because of the facts. I think it is crazy how we are being racist even though we know there is no reason to be. It also complicates my understanding becuase people haven’t learned and I don’t understand how they haven’t. How can people keep repeating the past and not look back at it. If they look back on it they could see what might arise out of their racism. So the new information has challenged me and confused my mind.

Radio Commercial

Connect: How do the ideas and information you have learned connect to what you already know about racism or stereotypes/single stories?

The ideas and information I have learned connects to what I already know because normally in history, racism is because a race is being blamed for something they weren’t responsible for, like in the Holocaust. I connect that to what I have learned because the racism towards Asians today is also because they are being blamed for something they weren’t responsible for. What I have learned also connect to what I already know because the stereotypes of people I previously knew about were incorrect and the stereotypes being placed upon Asian people are also incorrect.

Extend: How do these ideas and information extend or broaden your thinking about racism or stereotypes/single stories? These ideas and information broaden what I know because I previously didn’t know about racism that is caused by a disease. My thinking has been broadened because I have realized that there are many more different reasons that might be an excuse for someone to be racist.

Challenge: Do these ideas and information challenge or complicate your understanding of racism? These ideas and information do not complicate my understanding of racism. They do not complicate my understanding because I already understood that racism is caused by people without a reason, I already understood that racism only results in negative outcomes, and I already understood that people can turn anything into something racist and these ideas and information only supplied more evidence of what I already understood.

I think it is important to stand against racism in this historic time. Just like how doctors are creating a better world for everyone through medicine, we need to create a better world by standing up against racism. This is a historic time in our world and future generations need to be able to look at this without having racism in their views. We need to do better at not setting the blame on someone, even if the situation is out of their control.

Connect: I had already known a lot about racism and stereotypes/single stories before this project. This project gave me a better understanding of how racism connects with the virus. This virus had created many problems throughout the world that nobody is happy about. I already knew that people separated themselves into the "in-crowd" and the "out-crowd". This virus has brought those groups to a whole new level. The "in-crowd" has now used their power to blame the Asian and Chinese heritage to be the cause of the virus. Just because they virus started in Wuhan, China, doesn't mean that the Chinese and Asian heritage caused the virus.

Extend: This information extends my understanding and knowledge of racism because it gives me a better understanding of how racism can turn into something huge and even false. It shows me that people in higher rank try to put a blame on someone when something terribly bad happens, even to the whole world. You would think after all the trouble our world has been put through with racism that we would put a stop to it, but no, we still continue to do this harmful action to this day.We can't do that because it is most of the time not true. You need to find out facts before you decide to do other actions after that (especially hurtful ones).

Challenge: These ideas and information challenge my thinking and understanding of racism by helping me learn more about it and giving me more facts and evidence for my answer. I have learned more about racism than I ever have in my entire life, and this knowledge now even gives me a different perspective of the world. I now understand completely how our world is separated and for what particular reasons. Racism is something I know our world has to work together and stop because lies are being spread because of it.

challenge: It doesn't really challenge or complicate me because there will always be racism in the world. There isn't a way to change that because everyone is going to have their own beliefs. There is always going to be an IN crowd and an OUT crowd. It's really sad, but that's just the world we live in. I understand our world isn't perfect and it never will be so we are just going to have to live with it. When this happens we don't have to hate them, because they don't understand. The best thing to do is to pray for them and let God do the rest. Like what Martin luther king says "love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend."

When American see Asian or Chinese people, they start to think that they have or are the corona. Some Americans are blaming Asian people for starting the corona. After blaming and discriminating Asians, those people become racist. People need to stop being racist to the people from Asia. Not all of those people have the corona. We need to be chill and elbow it out. Who cares if they came from where the virus outbreak happened, they are people just like us.

Racism is something that I know will be an extreme challenge to end. The reason I think that is because all of my life I’ve known people, and even me, that have been targeted and racially discriminated, simply because of something we can’t control. We can not control where we come from. We can’t just decide the background, heritage, and race we are, and that is why many people are targeted every day. Through this project and life, I’ve learned that any race can be racist towards another race because of stereotypes and single stories. Stereotypes and single stories bring others down. It hurts them, just because people don’t know how to show respect and kindness toward each other, because, in the end, we’re all human. All of this makes me wonder why we all make stereotypes about everyone and not just about race, but about things that don’t and shouldn’t matter. We should compare ourselves and think of others differently just because of single stories. The movie High School Musical inspired me on my project because of the verse “Were all in this together,” because, in the end, we need to support and help each other. Stereotypes and single stories most of the time have a really negative impact on others, and because of that, people bring each other down. All of this information has made me understand that racism will bring not only me but everyone else down. We all need to understand that racism won’t help us all no matter how “nicely” we say and do things.

Connect- It shows that there is discrimination against Asians and their culture. We have been physically abusing them and hurting their hearts because we are scared. We have been reading articles about several stories of Asians. They have included telling people to put a mask on, moving away from them, and even verbal assault. My project shows Asians with COV-19 on masks and it is locked onto their face. This represents how our voice is the key to unlock the discrimination against Asians (lock) to free them.
Extend- It made me think of ways we can help stop discrimination from happening in the future and how they feel. There have been pictures of people holding up signs saying "I'm not a virus" and people just ignore it. It also helped me know how racism and discrimination can happen today and it let me know that this is still going on. I thought "well if Asians are being discriminated against for no reason, does that mean that people from the U.S. could potentially be discriminated against because of something". It made me think that it wasn't right at all and made me wonder what I personally could do to stop this for once.
Challenge- This challenged me in many ways. It helped me learn how to draw and make it look good but at the same time impact people and put a deep feeling on them. I feel like my Poster has a deep meaning and it stops and makes people think. I think the same, but I have a better comprehension of it and I no know about how it makes me truly feel. Finishing this project, and stepping back, taking a good look at it makes me proud of my work, but sad because I had a reason to create it in the first place.
