First & foremost, understanding the problem is vital. Source three notes how determining the difference between school and mass shootings is incredibly important seeing as it determines how the events are interpreted. With this, when school shootings are addressed in a different way than mass shootings, more information on the cause and location of the event can be gathered. For instance, trends in environments can be easier to determine and catch early on. It can be implied that awareness is a major reason for ineffectiveness when shootings take place. Therefore, separating and knowing the difference between these events is incredibly significant.

Contagion is a key pattern/trend which scientists use to predict and address school shooters' motives, early on. With this, the media seemingly has become filled with widespread knowledge, sourced from the news, influencers, tik tok, etc... All of which have a tendency to leak out key information, especially in regard to terrorist attacks. As noted in source 2, the likelihood of school shootings occurring in the same area as a previous one is high. Due to the fact that when a future school shooter notices that it was able to occur in one area, they then research the successful plan, and begin to almost imitate it as well. With this, much like how influencers in today's society impact fads and clothing trends, the media can also be used to leak terrorist plans. As culprits are caught and exposed, the media withholds such information to a risky extent; furthermore, this intentionally, is for research and governmental use and purpose, but it has become public information as well. Therefore, as more awareness is known of this, more trends are arising both environmentally as well as the possible risk factors to look out for. The trends are becoming far more notable and impactful; however, more information is still needed to configure the accuracy of these trends.

Mental health is quite significant within the prevalence and the occurrence of school shootings taking place; however, specifically, in regards to access. Access to guns within the U.S. is incredibly problematic seeing as those who acquire a license to own one are only selective through age. The U.S constitution allows American citizens to have the "right to bear arms"; however, there is no systematic process as to who should. With this, more selective measures need to be taken in order to control who is able to actually own a gun. The reason for school shootings happening is due to various reasons, and also mostly linked to psychotic and mental illnesses. Therefore, an excellent way to lower the rate of school shootings would be to have all who apply for gun ownership to have "background checks". The concept of "background checks", means all must receive psychiatric approval, prior to ownership.

The purpose of understanding the difference is that it impacts how the attacks/shootings are observed, understood, and dealt with. As well as disproves stereotypes associated with school shootings. Understanding that these events are entirely separate terrorist attacks allows for accurate measures to be taken, in opposition to the threat. A great example of the distinction would be in school shootings, the cause can be observed due to poor experiences in school, which are both linked to mental health issues as well as the growth of resentment towards the type of institution. Demonstrating, a much more narrowed and trackable, method for preventing school shootings. Especially seeing as there are common patterns and risk factors to look out for, which would go unnoticed, otherwise. With this, it can easily be implied that distinguishing the difference and separating the two acts of violence, school, and mass shootings allows scientists and law enforcement to address them, far more successfully.

As more and more aware of school shootings arise trends of poor mental health as well as behavioral problems exhibited early on are arising as well. To add to that, during the pandemic there was a wide emphasis on prioritizing mental health. Problematic behaviors, which are conveyed in the form of burnout, isolation, poor grades, etc... All of these were seemingly found to be risk factors, for a possible school shooter. Risky behaviors which also include anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenic tendencies, etc.. can all be early signs of a future school shooter. Whilst, these are not necessarily always linked to possible school shooters, it's still incredibly vital to address these signs early on. With this, the concept of social counseling is conveyed as well. Addressing these signs is necessary and specialized attention is needed for these students to receive help. However, it's important to note that not all have access to help and many don't reach out for help. Furthermore, a solution would be mandatory social counseling, in schools. This either can be a school or personally provided in the form of therapists, psychiatrists, etc... However, these forms of assistance are seemingly less effective due to accessibility. Many families are unable to pay for these services, which are vital for their kid's mental health and stability overall... Seemingly, which has led to poor, less opportunistic lives, as well as the posed risk of becoming a terrorist attacker for those individuals. Therefore, this source aids in the upbringing of our group's solution for school shootings in the U.S. If schools were to provide more funding for students to see social workers or at most have a designated person to talk to on a weekly or monthly basis, the risk rate of school shootings, later on, would go down tremendously.

Psychologists have come to the conclusion that a risk factor for school shootings taking place would be mental health issues. Research has demonstrated a noticeable link between social challenges within the school environment as well as poor experiences as being risk factors for shootings taking place. It can be implied that this is due to a built resentment towards schools that's gathered from the feeling of being bullied, rejected, left out, etc... All of these are connected to these types of environments; however, mental health issues that arose from these experiences factor towards whether these actions take place.

Resulting in various problems such as inadequate actions being taken toward addressing the issue. With this, mass shootings are caused by different variables than that of a school. Meaning that they need to be interpreted and examined through different lenses. Overall, this allows professionals to decipher what's best and to overall help minimize this threat to our society in the U.S. With this, these both allow for the research question to be answered as they provide incredibly useful information as to what school shootings actually are.

Overall, both of these sources provide meaningful insight into how school shootings and mass shootings are entirely different events. Whilst, mass shootings have a huge amount of reasoning and motives behind them taking place, school shootings have their own individual causes. Therefore, the importance of knowing the difference is vital to both understanding as well as taking effective measures against shootings, overall. Specifically, in source 3, the author notes how school shootings have certain predictors such as environmental trends, which if looked at from a general mass shooting perspective would not have been noticed. Similarly in source 8, the author, demonstrates how school shootings can also be tied to poor school experiences; behavioral problems that arose in early school years. Demonstrating, how understanding the difference allows for measures such as faculty members in schools to provide further support in schools to be taken. Not only, does this serve as a way to decrease future school shooting attempts, rather also aids in a more opportunist future for a person's life. Overall, both provide very useful methods of understanding and addressing the issue, which would have been fairly difficult to do without knowing the difference.

Source 4 and source 6 both provide an insightful understanding as to how mental health and school shootings are linked. With this, source 4, demonstrates how one major reason for shootings taking place would be the U.S's selection of gun ownership. The second amendment, stated in the constitution, permits for "the right to bare arms". Therefore, at the age of 18, any American or U.S citizen can have access to a gun, if desired. Although this amendment is intended for security and safety within the nation, it has increasingly become a problematic freedom as well. Resulting in various instances of terrorist attacks, one increasingly relevant to being school shootings. OVerall, this article demonstrates the urgency for more selective measures to be taken to chose who should own a gun, n the first place. To add to that, research has found a noticeable trend in school shooters having major mental and or behavioral disorders; therefore, as these are risky behaviors, there needs to be more awareness of the link as well. Especially, seeing as today our society has been emphasizing these behaviors, there also needs to be a way to ensure our nation's safety because it. Therefore, this source proposes the solution of "background checks", meaning those applying for gun ownership must have a psychiatric or qualified therapist "okay", prior to owning a gun. This allows for less problematic risks of gun misuse, within the U.S, as well as ensures more safety and security within schools. Similarly, source 6, provides insight on the link. As more awareness of mental health and behavioral disorders arise, so does the need for therapists and social workers early on. There are various risk factors for school shooters, exhibited within schools, that are starting to become known. However, there is also a need to address those issues early on. With social counseling as a possible solution to this, more students in need will receive the necessary attention, early on. Not only allowing for safety to be restored, rather also improving life in the U.S. Overall, both of these sources demonstrate the theme of mental health impacting school shooters motives; however, they also demonstrate two incredibly effective solutions to the problem as well.

Source 1 and 6 both provide insight as to how problematic behaviors and patterns exhibited within schools are risk factors that could possibly lead to a school shooter. To add to that, source one demonstrates how poor experiences socially can be significant regarding: isolation, rejection, bullying, anxiety, etc... However, these can ultimately lead to resentment towards the environment in which these experiences occurred, linking the terrorist attacks to school environments. With this, the need for schools to be aware of and address this is vital. Whether, that may be through mandatory social counseling or ensuring help is granted to those in need. Similarly, source 6, demonstrates how mental disorders, as well as psychotic disorders, impact a child's likelihood of becoming a school shooter. However, the proposed solution is to have schools fund programs of social counseling for all students, on a weekly or monthly basis. Although not all students will require the same amount of attention, every student has their own problems that require attention. Therefore, with these programs being set into place, the rates of mental instability early on should be turned around. Both result in more opportunistic futures for those individuals as well as to address and assist those at risk of becoming terrorists, in the future. This system poses a highly effective way to increase security, in the U.S.

These sources each provide key insight as to how mental health & psychotic illnesses such as bipolar, schizophrenia, etc.. all are linked to school shootings. Having a history of problematic behaviorisms that are rooted within these illnesses must be taken into consideration, in order to effectively prevent school shootings from taking place. For instance, source 4, proposes the solution of "background checks", this is crucial to understanding the scientific reasoning for why these shootings take place seeing as psychotic and mental illnesses are incredibly neglected when deciding who has access to legal gun ownership, in the U.S. Therefore, with more selective processes such as this one coming into fruition, allows for more security as well as for those who need help to receive that as well. Similarly, the concept of social counseling is also demonstrated within source 1, seeing as many mental issues that of which are school associated such as anxiety, isolation, depression, et. All are problematic behaviors and illnesses to the issue that stems from early education. Therefore, in order to promote healthier livelihood, as well as lower school shootings, the concept of addressing these issues early on and being cautious is vital in society. From this, it's been proven that if a shooting takes place within one region the likely hood of another occurring nearby as well as in a similar way is relatively high.

The relationship between sources 2 and 5 would be how they emphasize the environmental trends, within school shootings. With this, source 2, provides the background knowledge as to why it's important to understand these patterns. They do this by, demonstrating, how the concept of "contagion" has become key to addressing and predicting school shooters' actions/motives. As the media has become incredibly influential in our society today, those influential patterns seen in the form of fads and trends are also applicable to terrorist attacks. Research demonstrates that the likelihood of previous school shooting plans being leaked, for public display has become high. Therefore, more access as to what occurred as well well where it was able to occur is leaked out. With this, patterns are starting to become known between past and future attacks, starting with location as well as certain aspects of plans and motives. Similarly, source 5, provides a much more thorough understanding of the current situation as well as how this knowledge and awareness is being used to predict future attacks or plans.

These 3 sources collectively help answer the RQ by providing awareness as well as knowledge of the environmental trends occurring within school shootings. By demonstrating the media's impact on future school shooting attempts, many trends arise and are starting to be observed as well. As the media has enormous power over society's actions, behavioral patterns in terrorist attacks are being examined from the same level as well. Which has become revolutionary, in regard to predicting school shooter attempts, specifically their plans. To further expand on that, the plans of past attacks are being leaked publicly online. granting access both to the government and future attackers. Therefore, the concept of imitation of "contagion" is integral seeing as these successful plans are then used to model a future attacker's attempt.
