He released them to newspapers such as the Washington Post, and they published articles highlighting the Snowden Leaks. This decision caused many consequences for Snowden, as he received two counts of violating the Espionage Act of 1917, and also one count of theft of government property. These charges could have led to at most 30 years behind bars, and led to Snowden's passport being revoked. Snowden was listed as a traitor to the United States by some, but others praised him as a hero for their social justice because of his brave and selfless actions. To this day, Snowden's brave actions and perseverance show people that you should always do the right thing. A millionaire football player and a high school dropout working for the CIA may not have much chemistry together, but surprisingly, they do. Both of these social justice heroes share one of the most important qualities imaginable; an incredible sense of selflessness.
Edward Snowden knew that he would lose everything for leaking the classified documents, but he persisted and showed his selflessness to the public of the USA, and even the world. Snowden even knew he would be punished for what he did. An article wrote that he said "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions." This is a complete demonstration of his selflessness. Like Snowden, Chris Long was selfless enough to donate his entire salary, and donate tons of money, to a cause he believed in. It could have turned out for the worse, but he stuck with his goal and continued to give up some of his possessions, to help out the world. He knew that donating his entire salary and millions of dollars extra to Africa could turn out bad, but he bit his tongue, and was selfless enough to give what he values a lot. In 2017, he donated his entire salary to go toward education in many cities. In the off season, he also climbed the famous Mt. Kilimanjaro, to support his fund, the Waterboys. The Waterboys receive funds, and build water pumps in Africa, for towns that don't have access to clean water. He recently won the NFL Man of the Year award, which is given to a player in the NFL that have done great deeds for the community. While donating and sacrificing money and time, he demonstrated selflessness and passion to the world. He was a superhero to many in Africa and children in cities, being his own superhero, and his power being selfless. He choose to donate millions of dollars and a salary, to improve his life and others.

The unaware American citizens were living in a place of hidden secrets and injustices, all until one man stepped up and showed them what they deserved to know. That man is former CIA agent Edward Snowden, a fighter for the constitutional rights of his country. Snowden used his platform as a CIA agent to release millions of classified documents from the government to the public. As Snowden built up his rank in the government, he gained access to more and more documents. When the time was right in May of 2013, Snowden leaked the documents and explained the NSA's ideas to the newspapers The Guardian and The Washington Post. He then flew to Hong Kong to escape conflict. The next month, the two newspapers started to release a frenzy of articles about the Snowden leaks. The United States public (along with the world) got a hold of the articles, and suspicions and controversy entered the world. After reading the news, Americans began to realize how important Snowden's acts were. He revealed the  unconstitutional and unfair things that the government was doing against the United States, and even the world. For example, an article by Business Insider listed all of the Snowden leaks from 2013 to 2014.  Some of the most notable were that an   "internal NSA document reveals an agency "loophole" that allows a secret backdoor for the agency to search its databases for US citizens' emails and phone calls without a warrant", and also that "the NSA tapped the mobile phone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel." Snowden knew that the things the government was doing was not right, so he put it to himself to make change in our country. Daniel Ellsberg, a Defense Department official who released the "Pentagon Papers" summed up the reason in which Snowden is a social justice hero. “Snowden did what he did because he recognised the NSA’s surveillance programs for what they are: dangerous, unconstitutional activity. Many school children have to walk many miles for just a bucket of water. Fast forward to our days and things are looking up. Many people including Chris Long have been working and donating money to organizations, to help with their water shortage. Long has made many lives better, by providing water pumps in areas where there aren't any, so that others can stay in school, so they economy improves, and then the country that helps, can come out of poverty and help other countries. Long states, Long said that "When you implement clean water, it's not just giving people something to drink," Long explains "Health improves, hygiene improves, the economy improves, agriculture improves, education improves and kids aren't missing school."
It is like the teach a man to fish, where one action can help many other beneficial others. It could also result in bad ways too, which shows that Long is willing to take a risk for an even grater outcome. Long's selflessness in the community lead him to be recognized in many places, like Ellen, and the NFL man of the year. In the NFL's article they state that long explained that "I am incredibly thankful that football has provided me with a platform to give back and I am proud that so many of my colleagues have decided to use this stage to create positive and impactful changes in our local communities and around the world." While bringing that determination and motivation, long has changed the world in so may ways, including getting educational help for needy children, and his Waterboy foundation, founded to help with water shortages. He has changed lives not only in the football world, but also in many others. He has made improvements all over the world, and has inspired many others with his determination and selflessness.

I want to do something that can impact the world, like if I were to start a foundation for better air quality, or maybe better food and crops for people that are less fortunate. I can start something of my own, and change the world. Also, I feel proud, because Chris Long is an Eagles player, and he played a good role in giving us a championship. It is so crazy to think of what Snowden gave up for the good of our country. His consequences for his action were so great, he even had to escape from his own country. Snowden's selfless drive inspires me to be more like him, and do things for the good of the people around me. It definitely doesn't mean that I want to release classified government information to the world, but Snowden's actions do push me to be brave, to know that if I am doing the right thing, I should keep doing it because it is right, and I should not worry about the consequences of it. He started his own foundation, and continues to grow and nurture it throughout the year. He get continued support, and leads his followers to support his foundation to provide water in Africa. He Leads others in a way that only he can capture, using a mix of power, and sorrow. He does things that we can only dream of, and helps the world by leading us into a new future. That is why I would put him into the MLK text set category of the "Leadership" Longs legacy is mostly based on his career in football, but many other people focus on his other career, helping people. He will be immortalized as the man of the year, and many people will tell their children of how he was such a good man.
