I really liked this one. Great job! I could feel the type of pain you talked about in your ankles when I would jump off something too high as a child. I also connected with the part of watching the other children play from afar, as that was my childhood too. The end of the poem, the view of the sky staying the same stuck with me, because the sky is one thing that will stay the same throughout our lives, one thing we can look up at and perhaps feel safe and secure.

I really love how evocative all the sensations are in this poem, the wood digging into the feet, the colors of the tree, the knots and burls digging into the thighs. Its such a simple scene but in conveys so much, the loneliness/self imposed isolation- the disconnection with the other children, the connection with nature. I think my favorite line is “so much has changed, but the view has stayed the same” which feels like an anchor for the pain the girl is going though, both literal and physical. The idea of the grass intertwining with the hair really brings home the intimacy with the nature/ tree

The last line was my favorite. It's very cyclical and a nice closing responce to the childhood memory of the poem. I also like the feeling I get a feeling about the voice of the narrator in the line about the game. It gives me the impression that they are a loner and an old soul maybe a little out of place in their childhood. This makes the exceptance of the pain of falling back down resonate. As children, we reach, we fall, and we learn.
