Use in Classroom: Students will listen to some descriptions of animals and see if they can identify them. Students will listen carefully and try to guess the animal being described. For example, "It is a big animal with a long trunk" and the student would reply with "This is an elephant." This game would be a good warmup activity.

Use in Classroom: This activity is like musical chairs where you set up one less chair than students in the class. Ask the students a question and tell them to listen to an audiobook for the answer. If they hear it, they should sit down. You will then stop the audio and have the student tell you the answer. If the student is correct, they remain sitting. A wrong answer means they must get up again. For example, students would listen to the story Grump Monkey and you can create questions for students to listen for the answer. This would be a good start or end-of-the-day activity.

Grade: K-2

Content: Language Arts, science, math, or any subject area.

Grammar: Spelling, complete sentence that includes nouns and verbs.

Language Function: Describe, yes/no answers, and retelling.

Vocabulary: Whatever objects you decide to show within the lesson.

Pronunciation: Students will have a clear sound of each word they identify.

Use in Classroom: This game is a good way to introduce new vocabulary or review words from a previous lesson, requires students to memorize a set of objects that are shown to them. Afterward, one object is removed, and students must guess which one was taken. Students will have to listen carefully to you describe objects, but they’ll also have the visual aspect to help them better remember vocabulary. Lastly, if they get stuck and need a hint, they’ll need to listen carefully to the clues you provide to be able to figure out the answer.

Grammar: Present tense

Language Function: Asking questions, describing, comparing, and expressing opinions.

Vocabulary: Country, culture, tradition, and language.

Pronunciation: Ask questions with a rising intonation and describe a country with a complete sentence while taking a pause when the student reaches a period.

Use in Classroom: Students will be put in small groups. Each group will receive a country card or paper with the name of a country. One student from each group will be the "tour guide". The tour guide will take turns asking questions and describing their country to the other students in the group. The other students can ask follow-up questions and express their opinions. After a few minutes, rotate the tour guide role to another student in the group. This activity can be turned into a lesson when describing different countries around the world or it can be even a history lesson.

Grade: 2-3

Grammar: Basic sentence structures

Language Function: Informative writing, facts, and details about totem poles.

Use in Classroom: Students will create their own totem poles and write a story about what their totem pole represents. Before students do this they will watch a video about what a totem pole is. Students will imagine they are a certain Native American tribe member and students will create their own totem pole. They will write a short paragraph describing the symbols and figures you would carve on your totem pole. They will be creative and think about what is important to you and your tribe. Also, remind students to always respect and appreciate the cultural significance of totem poles and the Native American tribes who create them.

Grade: 3-4

Grammar: Present tense to talk about GoNoodle and the steps to create your own activity.

Vocabulary: Movement, actions, and body parts.

Pronunciation: Having intonation in question and exclamation marks.

Language Function: Students will learn how to give instructions and explain the steps to others.

Use in Classroom: Students will create a sequence and choose three to five movements from the list given to them and arrange them in a sequence. Then, the students will create a video of them doing the sequence. Students will imagine that they are the teacher and they want to explain their GoNoodle activity to their classmates. Students are required to use clear and concise language to give instructions for each movement.

Language Functions: Expressing preferences, talking about frequency, and making suggestions.

Pronunciation: Use intonation to show enthusiasm or interest in the activities you talk about.

Vocabulary: Hobbies, activities, adjectives to describe activities: fun, relaxing, challenging.

Use in Classroom: Pair students up with a classmate. Have students take turns asking each other about the activities they enjoy in their free time. Make sure students listen carefully to their partner's responses and ask follow-up questions to keep the conversation going. After a few minutes, switch roles and let their partner ask the other student the questions.

They can write about the colors of the leaves, the cool breeze, or the fun activities they enjoy during this time of the year. An example sentence could be: I like it when the leaves change colors. After students create their sentences they will share them with their peers.

Use in Classroom: This is a review activity for students who read a book and have to answer questions in complete sentences. They will use the booklet to answer the questions. This will be for a review day before a test or project.

Vocabulary: Any vocabulary words you want students to know in the text.

Use in Classroom: For this game, divide the text into small paragraphs. Then, write the summary of each paragraph on a strip of paper, and cut it out in between the words so that it becomes a puzzle. Then, after reading the text, give the students a puzzle group and have them rearrange the words so that they create a complete sentence. Finally, the students have to match the sentence with the right paragraph it summarizes.

Use in Classroom: With this activity, students will read about a bibliography of a historical person and go on a scavenger hunt to find interesting information the students thought about the person. Whoever finds the most facts within the time frame wins the scavenger hunt. Students will then share their findings with the class.

Use in Classroom: You will need two cards that are true and two cards that are false. After the class reads the text you give them, divide the class into two groups. Give each group a pair of “true” and “false” cards. Then, you will read out a statement based on the text they’ve read and they have to raise the correct card. The first person who raises the correct card wins a point. you can also play this game on Kahoot. This game is beneficial to see what students understand the reading and what students need more assistance.
