In 1889, Andrew Carnegie published the Gospel of Wealth, a book all about his philosophy on the wealth in America. Carnegie was a part of the wealthy class, and believed the wealthy should work to give back to the lower class and those who were willing to help themselves. This leads more towards a laissez-faire because he believed the wealthy should want to do this, rather then being forced by the government.
