Hey everyone! My name is Tiffani Reardon, and I am the program manager for Affordable Learning Georgia. I've been at ALG since February 2020, so about 8 months now (wow, didn't realize that until just now). I have been involved with ALG for about 5 years, though: I was previously an instructional designer at KSU, and I completed 9 Affordable Materials Grants (previously called Textbook Transformation Grants) during my time there. So I've been in your shoes! It's a big project with a lot of work, but well worth it when you see the expression on your students' faces when they find out they don't have to buy a $300 textbook.

My background is in instructional design, and I'm currently enrolled in a PhD program at Texas Tech University in technical communication and rhetoric. I also teach technical writing there, part time, and I previously taught for KSU as well. My biggest OER project is Open Technical Communication, which you can check out on OpenALG. I and two of the other authors still maintain and add to the open textbook, and we learn about new adopters in other institutions and in other states all the time.

Hello there!

I am the Physical Activity and Wellness Coordinator at Columbus State University and my background is in journalism and health. Our university has traditionally required a 2-credit Concepts of Fitness course for all undergraduates; earlier this academic year, my proposal to replace the existing course with a new Lifetime Wellness course was approved, and I applied for this grant in order to develop an interdisciplinary OER text for the course that combines the perspectives of various academic disciplines and prepares students to effectively understand and discuss the many factors that affect their personal health.

I previously used some open educational materials in combination with original ones for a class redesign last year, but this is
my first ALG grant. I'm happy to join all of you in this cohort and excited to see the great materials we all produce to benefit the students across our

I teach primarily in FYC, 1101 and 1102 courses, but I have taught a wide range of courses in general ed and ethnic lit courses. Out team from KSU includes faculty and staff from both the KSU English Dept. as well as the Writing Centre. We are developing micro teach video modules of high quality OER materials in 5 high footprint areas in FYC that can be taught in a variety of classroom modalities. Each module is self contained and will include activities, assessments, lesson plans and class projects that can be adapted to different kinds of classrooms. Through this project we aim to address issues of accessibility, adaptability and student and instructor success in 1101 and 1102 courses. Thank you!

A big part of this course is about teaching our students to search, find, analyze and evaluate research, and use this information to guide best nursing practices. Hi there! Our team of 10 will develop a template for first year writing course, ENGL 1101. Georgia Gwinnett College will work collaboratively with Kennesaw State University on this project. The course template will use Achieve, an online platform with features that include an e-book (Everyday Writer), LearningCurve adaptive quizzing, interactive reading, and multimedia resources. In addition, our project will speak to our diverse student population by incorporating diversity and inclusivity instruction. For the ninth straight year, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has been ranked as the most ethnically diverse Southern regional college, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report. In addition, the U.S. Department of Education recently designated Georgia Gwinnett College a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The course e-book, Everyday Writer, was selected for this project with the needs of our student demographic in mind. I'm Logan Leslie and I am working along side a number of members of the University of West Georgia Chemistry program to transform our general chemistry course to an open source text. This option will be a more cost efficient option for our students. In addition, by working on it together, we can increase the consistency between what they hear from their professors and their course materials by creating our own homework to go along with it rather than using a pre-made homework program (previously we have used a Pearson system). We will be evidence driven and collect data on student performance and attitudes towards the new material to compare with previous materials to see if there is any significant difference noticed in either student success or student comfort with the materials used.

Our lab, the Realities lab is open to appointments by anyone has a wide range of equipment for use. This is provided free of charge to our students, as well as training, so I have a personal interest in the application of our game development courses. Our entire program is focused on providing high quality, engaging content, and the course that we are transforming is one that has a LOT of content to engage with!
