Since I have read unit 1, I have been thinking about the Caribbean and how the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. In the Caribbean we can say that we have been able to address some of the goals listed in the MDG’s and the SDG’s. For example, in Barbados, we have been made progress in the reducing the risk of mother to child exposure to HIV/AIDS, also we have been able to ensure that children continue to have access to education at all levels. Further, access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation. However, there have been some challenges implementing so of the SDG’s. 

    Nonetheless, unit 1 highlights the need for human development as well as development studies. Likewise coming out of the unit, one may wonder whether economic growth can be used as a way to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals. It may appear within the Caribbean context that this could be possible – since most island states need some kind of financial assistance with implementing programs and project that are geared towards achieving these specific goals.

     Overall, the unit has provided much insight into development studies and allows for one to consider the applicability and possibility of the implementation of each goal. Further, the unit continued to highlight the use of various economic theories.
