He is very interesting to me because of the way he is. He seems very genuine, honest, true, and real. The description of his looks also caught my attention. "Now that the pallor of his faint was over, he was a skinny, vivid little boy, with a glance coming up from under a hut of straight hair that hung down, black and coarse," (page 12). This to me is like a hint at something that is yet to come. The author doesn't seem to describe any other characters except for the important characters. I feel like Simon is going to have a big role in this book and have a big impact on the other boys. I think that Simon may not have been well taken care of, but I also think that he is very knowledgeable for a kid his age. By the sounds of it, he sounds mature but is also a young child. I'm thinking 10 or 11 years old. I also believe that he is one to solve problems when some seem impossible to solve. I feel that Simon is going to become some type of role model to the others, at least to the younger kids who need someone to look up to. But I honestly believe that Simon is going to be one of the most reliable characters in this book.

I feel like this is an interesting battle because it can tell you a lot about his character. So, in conclusion, I think Ralph is the most interesting character.

I assume Jack will be a pretty prominent character throughout the story based on how much he stands out at the beginning of the story. I'm interested to see how his actions and beliefs will affect the rest of the characters or even the outcome of the story. He clearly plays the role of the tough, almost pompous type of person within the group and I guarantee we'll be seeing more than the surface of his character.

In this excerpt, Jack is at first, embarrassed because Ralph was chosen instead of him, but does not say anything. After Ralph offers to let him stay in charge of the choir which Jack is a part of, Jack becomes more accepting of his loss. To be willing to step down and accept the share given by the winner of a competition requires acceptance. While Jack is very arrogant, he is also accepting of losses.
