During a busy Monday morning, the service desk begins receiving reports from several departments that shared folders are no longer accessible. Some users explain that files will not open, while others report that shared drives are missing entirely. Remote staff are unable to access any shared documents.

The issue is escalated due to its impact on business operations, particularly for teams handling time-sensitive work. After investigating the server, it becomes clear that the system is not responding as expected and requires immediate attention.

The technician identifies that the server is experiencing storage-related issues. To restore access, unnecessary files are removed and the server services are restarted. After this action is taken, users are gradually able to regain access to shared folders and confirm that files can be opened successfully.

Once normal service has resumed, the technician checks system performance and confirms that no further errors are occurring. However, it is recognised that the issue could reoccur if storage usage is not monitored more closely in future.

As part of professional IT practice, the incident must be fully documented. This includes recording the details of the incident itself and logging the maintenance work that was carried out to resolve the problem. These records will be used for accountability, audits, and to help prevent similar issues in the future

Depending n the size of the company both options would be completely viable, similarly this would also depend on the amount and type of data being held. Extremely sensitive data such as employee and customer records or even criminal records should always be held on a local update to date and secure server whereas holding mass amounts of data which is less sensitive such as company financial records business targets and media for streaming platforms can be held on cloud servers. A company would also need to consider budget as building an internal local server may end up costing more than what an online cloud based subscription would cost as well as this if a company is already partnered with s services such as office 365 who offer cloud services they may be able to add cloud storage to there already existing payment plan at a cheaper discounted cost. However downsides of holding data on a cloud based system would include having to trust the company who controls the cloud data centres to mitigate any threats from hackers as well as needing 24/7 access to the cloud storage option however sometimes this will not be able to be met due to downtime. Having a local server would also be more beneficial as it would be easier to install access control on the system. Overall it is difficult to say which option would be more beneficial to the company as both have benefits and drawbacks.
