First, they take a sample of the water. Second, they add different chemicals into the sample which, according to the colour, describes how much nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and the ph levels that are in the sample.

They have concluded;
-The amount of Nitrate is 10ppm
Nitrates (NO3) are an essential source of nitrogen (N) for plants.  The bacteria in your bio-filter convert ammonia first into nitrite and then into nitrate. While ammonia and nitrite are highly toxic to fish, nitrate is much less so.

-The amount of ammonia is 0.25ppm
Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all byproducts of organic waste breaking down in an aquarium, and all are toxic at some level to your fish and plant life.

-The ph level is 6.0
The pH of any solution is the measure of its hydrogen-ion concentration. The higher the pH reading, the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. The lower the pH reading, the more acidic and oxygen deprived the fluid is.

-The amount of Nitrite is 0.0ppm
Nitrite is the intermediate nitrogen waste product in the biological filtration process. After fish release ammonia waste, bacteria convert it to nitrite which is still dangerous to the fish.

After testing the water, the fish tank was topped up with water. This brought the level of pH up to 7.4 which is optimal for our koi fish. The nitrate and nitrite levels were also brought down to 0 after we topped up the water which is great, as it means we do not need to introduce chemicals into our system to adjust the water chemistry.
