Jonas says things in a nice way and he means what he says.  

Jonas is also pretty nice when he says stuff too.  But something he can be a little mean about it.
Jonas thought are like what he think about during the day.

I still think that Jonas likes to help people out and he is not the type of person who only cares about himself he cares about other people too.  He is nice to other people too.  He loves what he does for his assignment so far and he likes telling people memory.

Thoughts - Strong:
Jonas shows that he is strong through his thoughts by never giving up. When the Giver gives Jonas the memory of war, he was in pain and was thinking to himself about how much the pain hurt and that he wanted his old life back. Even though he was in pain he always came back to his training. 

Thoughts:
Afraid - Jonas doesn’t like all the painful memories that he is receiving.

Jonas did not want to go back. He didn’t want the memories, didn’t want the honor, didn’t want the wisdom, didn’t want the pain.

Speech: Brave
“Do you love me?” Jonas was brave enough to ask this question because the word wasn’t used in his society.

Thoughts: Lonely
They have never known pain. Jonas realizes this and he felt very lonely. 

My thoughts haven't changed.

Jonas has not taken his pill and the stirrings are back unlike anyone else in the community because they all take the pill 

“Jonas did not take his pill.” p 129 

Jonas say many polite things such as he the quote above. Whenever he talks to people he is usually polite and only says caring things.  

Jonas speaks very politely when he is speaking to others. He seems to use kind and caring words. He uses please and thanks you like in the quote above. I have never him not being polite. 

What I understand and learn about Jonas based on what and how he says things is that he barely ever mean when he is speaking to others. He is barley ever rude even when he is in so much pain. He also never gets mad at The Giver. 
Chapter 11 page 86

Thoughts: Perspective 

"Jonas-knew, on days when he arrived to find The Giver hunched over, rocking his body slightly back and forth, his face pale, that he would be sent away."
It is revealed that Jonas is perspective in many kind of ways because he automatically knew that The Giver was not feeling well. He picked up right away that he should probably leave him alone because he was not feeling well. 
Chapter 13 page 105

Jonas isn’t carefree like he used to be. He has to bear this huge burden and that makes him heavy-hearted. 

Speech: inquisitive
“What is your favorite? Jonas asked The Giver. …  “Who were the old people? Why were they there?” 

I learned that Jonas asks a lot of questions and wants answers. He wants to know everything that is going on in each memory and wants it to be a part in his life. I understand that Jonas is curious and inquisitive. 

Thoughts: upset
“Jonas stared at them. Meaningless? He had never before felt anything as meaningful as the memory.”

Jonas is upset by the fact his parents don’t know the word love like he does. He knows it means a lot, or used too in another time. Jonas’s parents say the word love is meaningless when he asks if they love him, but he knows it isn’t meaningless.

"Please," he gasped, "take some of the pain." Jonas helped him to his chair at the side of the bed. Then he quickly removed his tunic and lay face down. "Put your hands on me," p.118

Speech: frustrated
Jonas is frustrated when he figures out that no one can see colors and he has to keep all of the memories so no one else has to have the pain and he doesn’t know his grandparents and his children won’t know their grandparents. 

Jonas frowned. "But my parents must have had parents! “I never thought about it before. Who are my parents-of-the-parents? Where are they?" p. 124

Thoughts: unhappy
Jonas is unhappy when he finds out that the word love is almost obsolete and never used in the community, while it has such a strong meaning to him.

"Your father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it's become almost obsolete," his mother explained carefully. Jonas stared at them. Meaningless? He had never before felt anything as meaningful as the memory. p. 127

Speech - Difficult:

Thoughts - Negative:

Jonas gets upset about how the Giver and himself has to take everyone’s pain, so that the community can remain painless. He wants to take a stand and ask the counsel to change the rules, to spread the memories equally among everyone. The Giver is very uncertain of Jonas’s optimistic.

We learn that Jonas gets a little upset that his parents think that love is meaningless. He takes the memory of love to heart and hearing love is an obsolete word, makes him uneasy. Something that he believes so in so heartfully, was denied by his parents. 

Speech Trait: Truthful

“You slept soundly, Jonas?” his mother asked at the morning meal, “No dreams?”

Jonas simply smiled and nodded, not ready to lie, and willing to tell he truth. “I slept soundly,” he said.

Explanation:He speaks the truth to his mother, even though the rule in his folder allows him to lie to anyone as he is the Receiver of Memory. But, he doesn’t do that, but is truthful towards his mother.

Thoughts Trait: Depressed

Jonas did not want to go back. He didn’t want the memories, didn’t want the honor, didn’t want the wisdom, didn’t want the pain. He wanted his childhood again, his scraped knees and ball games. He sat in his dwelling alone, watching through the window, seeing children at play, citizens bicycling home from uneventful days from work, ordinary lives and free of anguish because they were chosen to bear their burden. 

Explanation: After the ceremony of Twelve, when Jonas was selected as the Receiver of Memory, he started feeling alone and depressed as he had no time for recreation hours and he didn't use to meet his friends often. He would sit alone in the window of his dwelling, and watch the children and adults bicycling after their jobs, volunteering hours or from uneventful days, enjoying and feels like he was chosen to bear their burden.

In chapters 6-16 Jonas has begun to lose his sense of caring ever since he received his assignment. He still cares, but just not as much as he used to. I used this quote because it describes his actions as being careless because he failed to show up to his assignment on time.

Speech Trait- Respectful

 “Sir, I apologize for my lack of understanding.” Chapter 10, Pg. 75.

Jonas says things that any other human says. Jonas still is very respectful when it comes to his tone of voice and the way he talks to others.

I learn and understand that Jonas is overall a very respectful person just by the way he talks, because if he ever does something wrong he is very respectful and always apologizes unless it is to the Giver, because he is not required to apologize to him.

Thoughts Trait- Uncertain

“But the stuff---I  mean the snow--- in the air made it hard to see anything. Chapter 12, Pg. 92.

In the book Jonas proves a lot through his private thoughts and feelings. He proves that he is very scared and a little uncertain about the dreams he receives from the giver because he has never experienced anything like this before.

This is when jonas got his job as the receiver of memory and he is now one of the most important people in that town.

He doesn’t understand everything right away, he asked questions to help him Become a better Receiver.

Jonas is polite when he speaks because he always hesitates when he interrupts people “he knows it’s wrong”. He always asks about how the Giver is doing. When he was in pain, Jonas asked him if he could take some of it away for him. He cares about how he feels and this makes him polite. With the dialogue I can understand that the community has made him this way but I also understand that this is also just who he is and how he acts.

Thoughts trait - Curiosity
"Do you understand why it's inappropriate to use a word like 'love'?" Mother asked.

It was his first lie to his parents. Chapter 16, Pg. 127

I think the most curious part of him in the book is when he is asking his parents if they love him. He doesn’t truly understand why his parents think the word love is a meaningless and inappropriate word to use. Even though he says he does understand he tells us that him agreeing with them was his first lie to his parents. That is also definitely not the only time he has been curious about things, he has wondered about the colors, the books and where the old go when they are released.

When the giver is in so much pain from the memories, Jonas tries to do everything he can to help him be relieved of the pain even if Jonas has to take it from him.

Speech Trait- Motivational
Jonas wants people to feel good about themselves and be confident of who they are. He is very motivational and an overall positive influence for others. 

In this paragraph, Jonas was making Asher feel good about himself by mentioning how he got the most applause at the Ceremony than anyone else which Jonas was making a big deal out of. He is a very kind friend to Asher and others. 

Thoughts Trait- Inclusive 
Jonas doesn’t want others to be left out in anything he believes should be shared with them. He thinks everyone should be included. 

“He found that he was often angry, now: irrationally angry with his groupmates, that they were satisfied with their lives which had none of the vibrance his own was taking on. And he was angry at himself, that he could not change that for them.”  

Jonas wishes the people around him could see the true beauty of the world around them with all of the different vibrant colors instead of the dull, lifeless world they see now. 

He wonders many things, with all the knowledge he has earned form the memories, he wonders what it would be like if things were the same as back then. He wants ho know why things changed, and why people gave up such wonderful things such as colors. 

Thoughts- Thoughtful
“Things could change, Gabe,’ Jonas went on. ‘Things could be different. I don't know how, but there must be some way for things to be different There could be colors… ‘and Grandparents,’ he added, staring through the dimness towards the ceiling of his sleepingroom. ‘And everybody would have memories.”  Pg. 128

The giver looked up at him, his face contorted with suffering. “Please”, he gasped, “take some of the pain”... the hands came, and the pain came with them and through them. Jonas braced himself and entered the memory which was torturing the Giver.

 Chapter 15 Pg.118

Speech- Uncertain/ uneasy
Jonas is very uncertain and uneasy when he talks. When Jonas talks and asks questions to the Giver of to his family he seems uncertain and hesitant before he asks the questions. Because he doesn't want to be rude or ask the wrong things and he especially doesn't want to lie but sometimes he has to. When Jonas asked his parents if he loved him he was very uncertain of what to say to them.

“Your father means that you used a very generalized word, so meaningless that it's become almost obsolete,” his his mother explained carefully. Jonas stared at them. Meaningless? He had never before felt anything as meaningful as the memory…

“Do you understand why it's inappropriate to use a word like ‘love’?” mother asked.

Jonas nodded. “Yes, thank you, i do.” he replied slowly. It was his first lie to his parents.

Chapter 16 Pg. 127

Thoughts- Curious
When Jonas thinks to himself he seems very curious. He asks questions to himself and wonders what happened in the past. He also is very curious about the rules and why we have so many and why the rules are “unfair”,  why we can't change the rules, and why everyone can't have the memories and share them between the whole community. 

Jonas wasn't interested, just then, in wisdom. It was colors that fascinated him. “Why can't everyone see them?” Why did colors disappear?”

Chapter 12 Pg. 95

He tried to transmit good memories to Asher and Lily and couldn’t.

Speech Trait: Perspicacious
Jonas is clever and perceptive and very quick to learn things. Instead of just seeing what he wants and would like, he can see the consequences having those things could bring.

“... what is we could hold up things that were bright red, or bright yellow and he could choose? Instead of Sameness.” -Jonas

“He could make the wrong choice.” - The Giver

“Oh, I see what you mean. It wouldn’t matter with a newchild’s toy. But later it does matter, doesn’t it? We don’t dare to let people make choices of their own.”

“Definitely not safe.”

Thoughts Trait: Sympathetic
Jonas is specifically sympathetic towards the Giver on the days he’s in pain. He gets worried and wants to help.

“‘Go,’ The Giver would tell him tensely. ‘I’m in pain today. Come back tomorrow.’ 

On those days, worried and disappointed…”

“‘I’ll come back tomorrow, sir,’ he (Jonas) said quickly. Then he hesitated. ‘Unless maybe there’s something I can do to help.’”

This quotes tells me that he cares for Gabe and wants him to see colors and tells him that things could be different for him.

Speech - Sympathetic
“But why can’t everyone have the memories?”

I learned that Jonas is very caring towards others. This quote tells me that Jonas wants people to have good memories and see what it’s like to have those memories.

Thoughts - Optimistic
“The worst part of holding the memories, is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.” 

This quotes tells me that Jonas thinks that memories need to be shared weather they are painful or happy.  

After seeing all of the other slides, I don’t think that my opinion has changed much on Jonas. He is still very caring towards others and he is also very curious. 

nervous-  He is always wondering if things are going to hurt or not, he was also nervous when he said this “He said that it will hurt”.

observant- When he walked in the givers annex he immediately saw something that was a nicer future and there were books on the lines of the walls
