Samuel F.B. Morse created the telegraph in 1844. It was set up in Supreme Court Chamber. The telegraph sent electric signals. Samuel Morse was also the creator of Morse code.

This impacted society because Samuel invented Morse code to help communication throughout the country and helped people talk to each other around the world.

1825 John Deere

John Deere made the lightweight steel plow. Earlier plows made of iron or wood had to be pulled by oxen. Oxen were strong but slow, so John Deere decided to use a horse which was faster.

This impacted society because John Deere made the job faster for other people. It helped the steel plow become easier for people to work with because it was faster.

1793 Lowell Girls

Lowell girls were girls who had to work in the Lowell Mills 6 days a week for 12 hours, they were sent to work there with boarding houses to sleep in. Even though they did so much work, they got less pay than men would which upset them.

This is important to society because they made a important economic contribution by providing labor for the Industrial Revolution.

1793 Slater Mills

The Slater Mills was made by Samuel Slater in Rhode Island. The mill was a great success since American manufacturers began using Samuel's ideas.

This impacted society because it was the first mill to be created. If Samuel Slater never made the mill, maybe there would be no Mills to this day.

5 million people who lived on farms left for the city, they left for new job opportunities in factories. They realized people who worked in factories made a bigger profit and as more people came, the cities grew and grew.

This impacted society because it shows how people left their farms to go to the cities. If not, the cities would never grow and become what they are today

Because of the British Blockade, Americans were cut off from their supply of foreign goods so Americans had to produce more goods themselves so they built more factories.

1847 Cyrus McCormick
