I understand that Hannah Baker sent tapes she maid and sent them to the thirteen people (or reasons) that lead to her suicide. The book is focused on former classmate Clay Jensen receiving the tapes and finding out what he did that lead Hannah to her suicide. My question is if Clay can't remember anything bad that happened between Hannah and him(page 10), how could he lead her in to making such a devastating decision.

Text to World- As Hannah explains the stories of how people made her make her decision about suicide there were many warning signs from here, that if people picked them up she may have not followed through. This applies to the world because recently there have been too many suicides happening and if close friends and family picked up the warning signs they could get help and help them rethink there decision.
Text to self- I know that if I was in Clay Jensens position, I can not imagine the guilt, shame, and curiosity he's going through wondering what role he played in Hannah's suicide.
Text to text- This book is different then any other book I've read. The style of two main characters taking turns talking is something I've never seen in a book I've read. The climax or when Clay finds out what he did is towards the end of the book, where most books I've read have been in the beginning or middle.

The main inference I'm making is where Clays reason why he's on the tape is placed. My inference is something happened between Clay and Hannah at the party. I'm inferring this because many other bad things happened at this party and Hannah explains this party as the worst nigh of her life. I found this on cassette 1 slide a.

The passage the creates the best picture in my head is when Hannah describes her perfect first kiss pages 24-28. When she wanted her first kiss with Justin, she picked to meet at the playground because thats how she exactly dreamed of her first kiss. Her first kiss she described it with so many details, you could picture yourself in that dream.

After the sudden suicide of Hannah Baker, former classmate Clay Jensen receives 13 tapes made by her, explaining 13 reasons that lead to her suicide. Since Clay did not know Hannah except for small talk while working a summer job and making out for just one night at a party, he had no clue on what he did that would've lead to her suicide. After listening to all 13 tapes he realized that his reason was not bad, but hannah loved getting to know him and if she met him earlier he could have changed her decision, but since her mine was maid she knew she couldn't open up or have clay. Clay's life was changed and felt guilty for leaving her at the party and thought if he stayed he could have changed Hannah's mind. The next day at school after listening to the tapes Clay was mad at the people that hurt hannah and missed her more then ever before.

How Clay Changes Throughout The Book

Clay Jensen the main character changes in many ways throughout the story. In the beginning he thought nothing more of Hannah's suicide of sadness, but as he listens to the tapes he is reminded on how much he loved Hannah as a person. After hearing Hannah's feeling towards Clay his love grew stronger for her and he missed her even more. He remembered how great the party was, and how much he loved being with Hannah.

Theme

The theme I've taken away from this book is despite rumors you've heard you should treat that person with respect, and help them if you notice them not feeling them like themselves. It think this is the theme because, many of the people in the tapes that lead her to her suicide treated her without respect due to rumors that were spread about Hannah. For example the only reason Marcus Cooley wanted to go out with Hannah was to tested the rumors, and soon enough he was making a move on her. She had to kick him out of the booth to get him to stop.

The plot develops very fast in the book Thirteen Reasons Why. It starts with Clay receiving the tapes(chapter 1- one hour after school) and the plot develops as we listens to each tape and him going and visiting where they happened. The peak or climax is when Clay finally reaches the tape about him and the reader realizes his reason or tape is not all bad. The falling action is what happens after clay leaves the party and what else happened before her suicide. The resolution is Clay fully understanding why she committed

Authors Writing Craft/Style

The author, Jay Asher of the book thirteen reasons why has a unique craft or style that makes it easier to comprehend. One of my favorite things Jay Asher did during this book is italicized when Hannah was speaking on the tapes and regular font when Clay was speaking. This makes easier to understand, and I think without it it would be ver hard to comprehend.

My opinion on the book Thirteen Reasons Why is I think hit was vey interesting and the author did a very good job on creating unique stories that happened to Hannah, but at the same time making them all fall together or connecting. The only disappointment I had with the book is I was so excited to get to Clay's tape and find out what terrible thing he did to her, but I was disappointed when Clay's tape wasn't all that bad. This made it less interesting to read the rest of the book.
