What is this scam about?

People are taking advantage of the Corona outbreak by attempting to scam people. They try to falsely sell Corona related products and send emails pretending to be health organizations asking for donations or personal details. The reason this scam works so well is because some people are afraid they will get Corona Virus so they do anything they can to prevent catching it.

How does it affect people?

These Corona Virus scams affect people by trying to take advantage of people during this time of panic. These scams can easily fool someone looking to stay safe. It can be used to get a lot of personal information and even money. It can be quite hard to track down scammers after the scam has happened, so people need to be careful.

What should you do to avoid it?

To avoid these scams make sure you know who your sending money to, because the 'family member in need' might not be who you think they are. If you receive emails asking for personal information and money, make sure to search up the email that it is sent from and check if it matches the companies email they are claiming to be. If you get sent an email about a 'cure' or a way to 'prevent Corona Virus' there is a good chance it is a scam. If you get one of these emails, check the media to see if its real, because if a cure was found it would be very well known.

https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/news/covid-19-coronavirus-scams

What's the scam about?

Its about Stevie pretending to be an employee either someone from the bank, government or any other well known company. They tell the customer they have over payed their bill and that the Australian Government owes them money but for them to get the money they are owed they have to pay an administration fee by transferring the money straight into Steve's account. They wait for a letter from the government but it never comes, so they don't receive a cent of money that they were promised, but Stevie does.

How does the scam affect people?

It affects the people by paying for unnecessary things which are scams and therefore they love all of the their money because they think that they will get more in return. It wastes all of their money since it isn't going anywhere important.

What should we do to avoid it?

To avoid getting scammed you should avoid any of the unexpected calls or letter because those types of organisations will never contact you for that type of up front payment in return for money owed

Beware of fake websites because often scammers will send links to websites that look legit and look like the real deal

The best thing to do is to call up the company or relevant government department directly and make sure for yourself that you don't get scammed.

· What the scam is about.

The scam is about people getting scammed by people pretending to be someone or something to collect your personal data like your account details or your home address for example

· How it affects people.

Depends what the scammers get data too. Just say the scammer got your bank information they could take all your money. They could find your home address out also which can lead to unwanted people coming to your house.

· What should we do to avoid it.

Some of the things you can do to avoid it are not using the same password for every account, if you even have a slight feeling when you get a suspicious email that you think it’s a scam then straight away get rid of it, same goes with getting an unusual phone call hang up as soon as you know something is up.
