My experience during the weeks of the National Strike was a challenge on a physical and emotional level because it was mainly one objective: maintain daily energy, keep calm, and hope. Daily I had to find strategies for self-care and the care of those living with me.
Before the beginning of the Strike, the pandemic was already a difficult scenario for me because the characteristics of my family life required me to take every precaution to avoid any possibility of infection by the virus. Mentally and physically is an exhausting situation.
The beginning of the Strike due to the great social, economic, and political crisis of the country was sufficient reason to take to the streets and support all the calls of mobilization. However, those dates were the same date on which my parents received their first dose of the virus vaccine. 🌿 Taking care of my plants reminds me that caring is not just for humans. Care is in all life, in animals, plants, towards myself, my personal space … I think we are always taking care of others, and at the same time, some people take care of us.

Basically, all the ways that I found to support the Strike from home are related to the strategies to better cope physically and mentally with this situation.

Political and social participation are activities that require a large amount of available time, as to listen to people’s opinions as to sit down about one's own position. I realized that an equal distribution of household chores with my mom was, oddly enough, a form to support the Strike... but why?

If the National Strike is a way to demand a change in our living conditions, I am sure that the changes must begin with our personal relationships. Taking actions to allow the women - in this case, my mom - to have better-living conditions, is possible starting for that equal distribution of care work as a matter of justice with the time of life of each one.

In conclusion, my participation and my process of political training happened in the middle of talks and assemblies, but also, in the middle of wash the dishes, laundry, clean the yard of the dogs, walk them, listen to my mom telling me her worries, explain her the daily news, find a new hobby, moments of fun and read a lot to grow up personally and professionally. Taking care of myself and others.

😷 Masks represent a new reality. When people marched, many people said that the peak of contagion would increase. I say that it is a bit contradictory because when people take public transport daily, which is always full, the risk of contagion is maintained. 😣 Although I felt anguish, fear, and sadness due to the over-information on social networks, I try to stay informed without saturating myself. I attended virtual talks, I read alternative journalism. I try to keep in touch with my closest networks.
