In chapter 1, we learned about the main characters, Violet, Chloe, Stephen, Mother and father. The story is set in 1920 when Mother and Father sent Chloe away because she wanted to vote and to go to college. But Chloe has been writing letters to Violet, but she never knew. One normal day, Violet was finding something for Mother, (I forgot what) but found some letters that said: To Violet, it was then that she realized Chloe had been writing to her all along, and Mother had been lying to her! Then Mother came in and started arguing with Violet, until Dad came in and started questioning the appearance. Then Violet ran up stairs and started reading the notes, but then she realized Chloe had been writing to her since 1918! (2 years ago)

In the beginning of Chapter 1, Violet started running away from being hurt from Mother and Father, and because she wanted to see Chloe, and really wished she had comfier clothes. Then with the $3.92 she bought a ticket from Pennsylvanian to New York, which was $3.25. And on the way she met a woman a seat next to her (Mrs. Renwick) , who demanded she was dying but no one knew what it was from. On the way, Mrs. Renwick kept questioning her about random things including, how many children she wanted to have, how old she was, why she was traveling alone and what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she said she wanted to be a reporter (lie), but this was only because her friend Flossie died from influenza. Later on the train ride Mrs. Renwick, she gave Violet 2 tootsie rolls. Then, of course Violet thanked Mrs. Renwick.

The message of Chapter 3 is, feelings can always be changed no matter where you are. I think this because after the train ride Violet gets off the train and she finds a police officer because she doesn't know how to get to Henry Street and she feels scared and she keeps getting pushed away, and one time when the train (EL) passes she thinks the train was blowing up, and she falls into horse maneuver but then a colored girl (Myrtle) offers her a hand then while they were walking they passed a hot dog shop then asks for 2 hot dogs, 1 for Violet and 1 for Myrtle, then they become friends.

In the beginning, Violet with Myrtle finds where Chloe is supposed to be, and there was a man that they talked to and the man asked a lot and talked a lot like Mrs Renwick, and asked , but unfortunately the man told them that Chloe had moved to Washington DC because Chloe wrote to Violet in 1918 but Violet found out in 1920! (2 years later) she thought that it was not true, but he told her that she left, unfortunately the man was right!

In the beginning of the chapter Violet and Myrtle find out where Chloe was actually. (Washington D.C.) After that, she and Myrtle started going to D.C., they first got on a train to Philadelphia and met someone named Hobie the hobo, who claimed he has been everywhere - almost, but for most of the ride he had been talking about all his adventures and everywhere he was. And then they got to Philadelphia, and they found some people who grabbed Myrtle and threw her out demanding money, then Violet gave him money and checked out Myrtle and the robber left.

In the beginning after Violet and Myrtle got off the train Hobie stayed on the train and wondered where it would take him. Then they knew they had to go to the white house because that's where she was said to be, and on the way they passed where Myrtle used to live. Then when they got there they knocked on the door and a young woman answered and told them Chloe had been away for months! Then she wanted them to take a bath before anything else, and even though it had only been 2 days since the run it felt like a week ago and she wondered if Mother and Father were mad at her but she said "Of Course" then the ladies at the white house and told them all about everything like why Chloe had left, finally she told them Chloe was not in D.C., she was actually in Tennessee!

In the beginning Violet and Myrtle woke up to an alarming noise, that was an alarm. Then when they went downstairs they were surprised to see Mr. Martin, a Suffragist they had found at the Penn Station. Then he went to the train station to Tennessee, and they found lots of people, mainly Suffragists who were wearing many different colors. But when they got on the train Myrtle was thee only colored person so before they took off she had to go on a train to Tennessee for colored people.

In the beginning after a conductor said Myrtle had to go to the car for colored people on the way, while she was switching cars she saw a conductor who questioned what she was doing and shoved her out of the way. After that she still had to get through like 3 more cars to get to her car, because her car was in the back of the train, and when she got to the final door she tried so hard to open the door but she couldn't open it, then a colored woman who she thought was over 200 opened the last door. Then when both of them sat down she asked many questions to her.Then the woman asked how old she Myrtle thought she was.

In the beginning right after the train left off Violet got some lunch for Myrtle, but when she got back to her train she found 2 men in suits and were looking for Mr. Martin, but when she asked why they were looking for him they said a crime worse than murder. After that Violet went to Mr. Martin who was getting 2 drinks for Myrtle and Violet. And when she asked Mr. Martin for those people who were there he jumped the train, then the people looking for Mr. Martin came in while she was looking out the door, grabbed her and asked where he was but he didn't call him Mr. Martin they called him Arpadifi.

In the beginning, before they go to Nashville Miss Dexter gave Violet some breakfast and some extras for Myrtle before they left. Then she rushed to get to her car, but before she crossed the tracks she saw a pregnant woman fall onto the tracks so of course she helped her up. Then she got on the train as it left off.

when the train stopped again in Tennessee she found the hotel that Chloe was said to be in, then as she walked in the hotel she asked the manager if anyone there had a last name of Mayhew, (Chloe's last name)

but he said Chloe was not there. After that she got a hotel room still unsure where Chloe could be. Her room number was 907.

In the beginning after she got off the train and after the manager told Violet what room number she was, she got in the elevators. After each floor her stomach turned. On the 8th floor some people who smelled of whiskey that her dad had before it was illegal. When she got off she tried to find her room, until she was so hungry, then she went to find food. After that she finds

a place in her hotel that serves food, and to her surprise she finds Chloe! Then Chloe asked her why she was there, but she said "I ran away."

In the beginning it starts off when Mr. Martin and Myrtle were trying to find a place to get lunch because they never ate. So they were trying to find a place to eat, but after trying 4 places to eat they finally found a drug store that accepted colored people, but someone had to eat outside in an alley. In the middle, after they found a place to eat, they needed to find a hotel to sleep at, so the manager of the drug store gave them a address to a hotel that accepted colored people along with non- colored people. In the end they found a hotel to stay at. It wasn't very nice and clean, but at least it was something.

In the beginning Myrtle talks about what she wants to do if they win the vote. First she wants to leave Tennessee, and does not want to go back to the Training Institute. After that she tells Mr. Martin how he could marry him, "You might even move to China," she says. In the middle, Myrtle finally asks Mr. Martin why Palmer agents, so he tells her that he is in trouble for speaking out against the war. She is surprised that he would get about 20 years, and remembered someone could get 3 years or less from stabbing someone.

in the end Mr. Martin finds Chloe, and Violet realizes if Mr. Martin is here then Myrtle must be here, so she finds her hiding in a alley outside of the pharmacy. Then they talk all about voting and what they would do if women get the vote. After a couple minutes passed Mr. Martin rushes out the door, so Myrtle follows him.

In the beginning Violet was in a meeting with Antis in room 14. She was a spy but no one knew it. She was wearing a red rose just like everyone else there, because remember she was a spy. During the meeting the antis were planning on murdering a suffragist. In the middle she goes to tell Chloe about what the antis plan was. On the way she asked many people if they had seen Chloe, then after she asked a person they said she was on the 10th floor where a dance was on. When she entered she found Chloe, who was dancing with Mr. Martin. After she entered someone saw her with her red rose and she said, so you aren't on the same side as your sister she said yes and then walked away. After that she couldn't find Chloe and Mr. Martin, so she looked at the Hermitage and she found the Hermitage and saw Chloe, Mr. Martin, and Myrtle. But before Violet saw Myrtle she tried to be invisible because she wasn't allowed to be there since she was colored. So Violet ruined everything by saying hi Myrtle then everyone started at her.

In the beginning it starts off with Myrtle, Violet, and Chloe when Chloe was teaching Myrtle and Violet how to start the Hope Chest. They were wide, and cleared plain- great for it. Chloe kept telling them there were 2 people involved- she thought. Chloe said one of the steps can break your arm. Then after that Violet and Myrtle took their shoes off and went into the pond to catch some frogs, Myrtle caught one, then they went further down the pond. Then Chloe and Violet went to the Capitol, where Violet noticed a hole or dent in the wall, then Chloe explained that, that happened from a gun fight, in the end Myrtle and Mr. Martin were in Dead Horse Alley when Mr. Martin was cutting open a can until the palmer agents came in and accused him of trying to stab him then they arrested him and she ran out the door.

In the beginning it starts off when Myrtle rushes to find Chloe and Violet, they were rushing down the steps from the Capitol stairs. When Myrtle saw them they were starting the Hope Chest up. When Myrtle told them Chloe, Violet Mr. Martin. So Chloe and Myrtle went to find Mr. Martin, while Chloe told Violet to stay there- she didn't she went to find Mr. Boltz or
