Holocaust means means mass killings by fire or nuclear war which can portray to what is happening in Syria. 
My topic/social issue that i will be talking about is the conflict in the middle east specifically Syria. The president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad gained power in 2000 after his father. He wanted everyone to follow his rule but the civilians didn't agree with him, so they rebelled. The people are having demonstrations to oppose the way the government is run. Russia, Iran, China are allies to Syria and is helping them kill Syrian civilians. The civilians do protests but the armed stopped them by killing them. This conflict is still going on today, 7 years in total. 
 This event is similar to the Holocaust because it shows how one person that has too much power can destroy their own country. Even though the people in Germany had different religions like Judaism they still wanted all of them gone and to eliminate their own civilians based on their religion.  
 This event differs from the Holocaust because it shows how the Jews/good did nothing were weak to fight back against the Nazis and Hitler. This is different from Syria because the civilians weren't happy with the government so they rebelled back to the the President and doing protests. 
Elie said, "I could not believe that human beings were being burned in our time; the world would never tolerate such crimes.” This quote explains all the horrors these people had to go through during the Holocaust.
