Everyday Stick is bullied and the beginning of the book starts at a basketball game when in the bathroom a kid named Ricky is bullying Stick. While this is happening Bosten walks in and decides to end it and knock Ricky out. Soon people find out and Bosten is beaten at home furthering raising the gap between them and their parents. As the book goes on one day Stick and Bosten were at their friends Paul's where Stick sees them doing stuff and finds out that Bosten is gay. During this time there are also interesting developments between Stick and Emily, as they decide it would be fun to have a bath together something they will never forget. After a few weeks their parents give them the news that they will be going to California to stay with their Aunt Dahlia's house for Easter break. They were very angry when they found this out but they found out Dahlia is amazing. While there they make two great friends named Kim and Evan. Kim is the most beautiful girl Stick has ever seen, and Kim and Evan teach them how to surf. Life at Dahlias was so much different they didn't have such strict rules and they had some freedom. It is so amazing they never want to go back and they have the funnest week of their life, never knowing that this is how people could live. While at Dahlias they learn their parents will be getting a divorce and things will be different when they come back. Sadly they return back and for the first few days Stick stays at Emily's and Bosten at Pauls. Then it is time to go back to their fathers house since school would be starting up soon. Stick got their first a day ahead. The next day Stick woke up to Paul Buckleys mom running in the house to tell Sticks dad what he had seen, finding out that Bosten was gay. Their dad decided to beat Bosten in which Bosten fought back to defend himself and ultimately leading to Bosten fleeing and running off. Stick then decided he would run and he went to Emily Lohmans telling her everything that happened and that he had to go to Dahlias. He stole his dads car and made his way to California. About halfway their his car broke down but luckily at a repair shop. The man who ran the shop was Willie and he was very sweet and nice to Stick offering everything he needed including a house to stay. The day Stick was to leave Willie and his buddy Bob decided to throw a party in which they started doing cocaine and drinking trying  to force Stick to do cocaine. He refused and Willies friend Bob tried to rape Stick. Stick fought back and escaped him so Stick hid in the house until all the sudden he heard 5 gunshots. He was very scared to he waited awhile then he walked out to see Willie and his buddy Bob dead on the floor. He ran miles to his car and started driving. He drove for about a day or two until he ran out of gas in small town. So now it was time for him to walk. After walking for not very long a truck pulled up next to him and in it was a very nice man named Sutton who would take him to where he had to go. At this point police where searching for Bosten because Stick had stole his license to drive so they believe that Bosten had killed Willie and Bob. Sutton knew this and still was willing to help. So Sutton takes him home and Stick is now at Dahlias. While he is there many police officers had come looking for him and interviewing him. After a few days Stick was out surfing with Kim and Evan when Dahlia ran out to get Stick. Bosten was on the phone and only needed to talk to Stick. Bosten was in Los Angeles like a 
street kid place. Stick decided he had to go alone and he made it. He went to Angel Street the place he told him to go to. After awhile he fell asleep and was awoken by Bosten. At first Bosten was cautious of going and Stick almost left him because Bosten was covered in needle marks. After being born with a deformity which is he only has one ear he is often bullied. Stick is a very tough and thick skinned kid who loves his brother and would do anything for him. Stick is someone you know would always be there for you if you didn't mistreat him

Bosten: Bosten is Sticks older brother. Bosten is also very loving towards his brother and would do anything for him. Bosten is more daring though than Stick often doing things that get him in trouble by his parents. He also does not necessarily care what people think about him because he knows who he is as a person.

Aunt Dahlia: Dahlia is Stick and Bostens aunt who lives hours away from them. During the book she gives Bosten and Stick the true parent figure Stick and Bosten have never actually really had. It starts in Bosten and Sticks home in small town Washington. While in Washington there are also some scenes in the school as well as their friends Emily Lohman's house, and Paul Buckneys. These settings are important because at places such as Emily Lohmans you see what kind of person Stick is. A fairly small conflict in this book that actually has a massive impact is Stick being bullied. Since Stick has a deformity he is commonly picked on because of it. These conflicts are hard to be resolved but none of this would have never have happened if Bosten never decided to stick up for Stick and knock some of his bullies out. Stick also defends himself later in the book one day during gym when someone was calling him names all day. This is a person vs person conflict. 

2. Another conflict in the book is within Stick himself making it a person vs self. Stick and his good friend Emily Lohman clearly have a connection that is sometimes confusing. As this relationship happens Stick becomes conflicted while in California when he meets Kim. Kim is the most amazing and mysterious girl he's ever seen, but he loves Emily. Him and Kim end up making out but he gets very mad at himself for it because he feels like he betrayed and in the end he doesn't know what to do.

3. The biggest conflict I would consider is a mix of conflicts but probably mostly person vs nature. After Bosten and his dad get in the big fight and he runs off. This causes stick to steal his dads car and try to look Bosten. He decides that Bosten will most likely go to Dahlias. Stick after much trouble gets to Dahlias to find he is not there. But after a few days they get a call and its from Bosten. No matter what happens and all the turn of events Bosten and Stick are always there for each other. Such as when Bosten decides to Stick up for Stick and fight his bullies knowing he will be beaten by his parents. Even though they hate their parents and Stick and Bosten have their difference they understand each other and are there. I would because it's a very interesting story that could appeal to everyone. The plot twists and interesting sequences are very interesting and always keeps you on the edge of your seat.
