NO. Performance in class is exceptional. AIMS and TEKS checks are both low because GT students do not value this type of assessment. They prefer creative higher level thinking. We have discussed as a class that even though we are GT, we have a responsibility to pull high scores for our school and to grow individually 10%

My kids put the same amount of effort into both. Overall, they took them both pretty seriously. However, they took the TEKS Check first and saw how low their grades were and were a little upset. This was tough because 1.) we had handful of kids whose tests got erased and they were told to do the test again. 2.) the test assessed things that were not on our curriculum map or that were given little importance in the curriculum. 3.) many of them did not even know to scroll to see the whole story so they took the test over a paragraph or two! They seemed to line up and nothing surprised me, but I feel like it is hard to compare the two. Aimsweb moved one student down completely based solely off the SRF section! Everything else went up, but overall that put them down. This isn't even something that is used to determine any kind of growth or success in students. So...all in all, they gave the info that one test was supposed to give, but it is hard to measure them up against each other because of all the factors. Either way, it still is hard data that we cannot ignore.
