Germany anticipated to easily capture Great Britain by first taking control of airspace and then moving ground forces across the English Channel, but it was overconfident and ill-prepared (Operation Sealion). Adolf Hitler, Nazi dictator, wanted the United Kingdom to surrender, however, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill declared that Britain would "never surrender" and that the battle would continue.
- This event is important because The Battle of Britain was a critical period in WWII, allowing Britain to avert a German invasion. Without the Battle of Britain Britain and its allies would have never defeated Nazi Germany on D-Day.

Auschwitz liberated by Soviet troops is one of the most important events because if the Soviet troops hadn't had liberated the Auschwitz camp, we wouldn’t have known the war crimes the Nazis were committing. They were imprisoning, killing, and starving enemy soldiers, Jews, and other ethnic groups. Unfortunately, the Soviet troops didn't know the Nazis and other prisoners had exited the camp. If the Soviet troops hadn't had found the camp the Nazis would have continued committing war crimes. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the most important event because it led to the surrendering of Japan. Approximately 80,000 people were killed instantly by the explosion, with tens of thousands more dying subsequently from radiation poisoning in Hiroshima. 40,000 individuals are thought to have died in Nagasaki. The bombs used were the atomic bomb.
