I have been working with children since 2019. I graduated from the Child and Youth Care program in 2019 and began working for the Thames Valley District School Board as an Educational Assistant shortly after. I worked there for 3 years and then decided to find something closer to home. I then started as a support worker in a child care centre, working for Linck- Chatham ON. I really grew to love the ECE profession and field from working there. I decided to change career paths and focus on the educator aspect. I applied to the child care that I was previously a support worker at, and have been working as a Teachers Assistant in a Senior Pre-school classroom ever since.

I grew a deep love for this field which made me want to go further and become a Registered Early Childhood Educator. I chose this profession because I am very passionate about creating and implementing appropriate programming for the children that I work with. As a support worker I felt held back in this area, as it was not part of my job to create and implement these programs, or facilitate the day. I love to get to know each child in my classroom and base the curriculum on their current needs and interests.

Reflection:

The following artifacts reflect the importance of growth and development for children aged 0-6. I have gained immense knowledge when it comes to certain aspects of child development from the Child Development courses.

The impact of Media on Child Development is an extremely relevant topic when it comes to the children that we work with in today's society. As well as the importance of outdoor play and exploration for children. These are two topics I feel very strongly about which inspired me to write my op-ed papers on these topics.

I had the opportunity to reflect on different attachment styles when completing the Attachment project. The Temperament project was extremely beneficial to my growth as an educator, and knowledge on temperament styles as I gained a deeper insight on temperament with children, and my own personal temperament.

Overall, understanding and deepening my knowledge on Child Development has been extremely important and will benefit me as a future Educator. I now have the appropriate knowledge and strategies for better supporting the children that I work with and their ultimate growth and development.

Reflection:

The following artifacts I have chosen have helped shape me into the educator I am today. Through writing my Educational Philosophy, it helped me to truly see what my beliefs are and how I like to create curriculum to effectively help the children and their unique needs/interests. The Capturing the Learning Assignment helped me to dive deeper into the Excerpts from the ELECT document. The Pedagogical Documentation Showcase was extremely beneficial to me as a future Early Childhood Educator as it helped me to grow and reflect as an educator. The field placement workbook guided me along the way throughout my placement. Using the workbook I was able to appropriately observe, plan and facilitate activities. I was able to create programming based off of the children's developmental needs and interests. I gained more knowledge on the importance of documentation and how to appropriately document to create and facilitate curriculum that pertains to the children and their interests.

Program and curriculum development is extremely important for the children we work with. Ensuring that we develop a curriculum and program that meets their current and basic needs, while also being emergent will ultimately support their growth, development and future successes.

Reflection:

The artifacts that I have chosen ultimately show the importance of having responsive relationships with the children, as well as partnerships such as co-workers or colleagues.

Within my Work Task #4 I was able to learn the importance of effective communication with colleagues, and developing strategies together to help support children appropriately, while working as a team.

My Final Reflection supported how to effectively create and maintain responsive relationships with the children and how it can ultimately support them and their growth, development, regulation etc.

The importance of Social and Emotional Learning assignment helped me to gain great knowledge on how to exactly build these responsive relationships with the children.

Ensuring that we as educators can develop responsive relationships with the children we work with is a huge part of our job. Developing relationships will help us to get to know the child, and how we can better ourselves, our program, and facilitation for them. It is also extremely beneficial to create responsive partnerships within our work environment so that we can ultimately work together as a team and create a positive, supportive classroom environment.

Reflection:

I chose these three artifacts as they effectively demonstrate appropriate Health Regulation and Practices in the Early Childhood Education profession. The purpose of these artifacts is to facilitate proper practices in our day-to day that ultimately support the children.

These artifacts reflect the beneficial practices and regulations that I have learned throughout the Health and Safety & Nutrition course. I now posses effective strategies when it comes to practices such as washing our hands, how to appropriately plan an outing or field trip with the children/parents/guardians, and healthy meal/menu planning with the applicable substitutions necessary.

I chose these artifacts as they effectively advocate for children, families and the Early Childhood Education profession. These artifacts helped me to reflect on my beliefs when it comes to the profession, and how I would exactly advocate upon these aspects. Through the Reflection on the Universal Beliefs assignment I have gained knowledge on many different beliefs and pedagogies, and had the opportunity to connect them to each other. I was able to reflect on how I would appropriately advocate for a child and her family within the case study, and discuss an action that I stand for in the Envisioning Quality assignment. The Elected Official Letter presentation gave me the opportunity to work within a group and discuss/research a topic that we feel strongly about within the Early Childhood Educator field. Being able to advocate for the children that we work with and their families will ultimately support the child's growth and development. Also having the ability to advocate for our profession is extremely important as it helps us to be better educators and continue to evolve for our field.

Reflection:

These chosen artifacts gave me the opportunity to research many different articles, and course content to grow upon my professional learning and prepare me for the field.

The Reflective Theorist Comparison #2 gave me the opportunity to reflect on theorists that I researched and which ones I most align with based on beliefs, outlook on the child, philosophies etc.

Guidance and Our Role in Supporting Children had me research multiple articles and how it ultimately supports the children. This taught me a lot about professional learning as it showed the importance of the role of the educator. The articles I researched really built upon my own professional learning.

The Weekly Muses from weeks 1-5 built upon my professional learning as going through the contents of each week taught me the importance of classroom environments, cultural impacts, and epi-genetics. These were all topics that enhanced my professional learning for my role as an Early Childhood Educator.

Ensuring we continue to research, and evolve as educators is extremely important for our role and our field. Maintaining our professional learning will help us to build upon strategies and learn new things- which will ultimately support the children that we work with and the success of our classrooms/learning environments.
