the presence in or introduction into the air of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects.
1) Most of this air pollution we cause results from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline to produce electricity and power our vehicles.
2) In 2016, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine announced that it’s now possible to confidently attribute certain weather events, like some heat waves, directly to climate change.
3) The earth’s ocean temperatures are getting warmer, too—which means that tropical storms can pick up more energy. So global warming could turn, say, a category 3 storm into a more dangerous category 4 storm.
4) The impacts of global warming are being felt across the globe. Extreme heat waves have caused tens of thousands of deaths around the world in recent years. And in an alarming sign of events to come, Antarctica has been losing about 134 billion metric tons of ice per year since 2002.
5) Melting glaciers, early snowmelt, and severe droughts that will cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires in the American West and rising sea levels that will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico are both caused by air pollution and access carbon dioxide in the atmosphere,

Knowing how much carbon dioxide is released throught every day activates like driving a car, I can see myself changing how i transport myself and change my ways to release less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.
1) Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface.
2) The burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest source of heat-trapping pollution, producing about two billion tons of CO2 every year. Coal-burning power plants are by far the biggest polluters.
3) The country’s second-largest source of carbon pollution is the transportation sector, which generates about 1.7 billion tons of CO2 emissions a year.
4) CO2 emissions in the United States actually decreased from 2005 to 2014, thanks in part to new, energy-efficient technology and the use of cleaner fuels.
5) In 2015, for example, scientists said that an ongoing drought in California—the state’s worst water shortage in 1,200 years—had been intensified by 15 percent to 20 percent by global warming.

Deforestation in this region is particularly rampant near more populated areas, roads and rivers, but even remote areas have been encroached upon when valuable mahogany, gold and oil are discovered.
5) Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. We’re losing 18.7 million acres of forests annually, equivalent to 27 soccer fields every minute.

Since technology is advancing, wood and forest resources aren't needed as much anymore like for paper or houses. I can try to reduce my usage of paper to lower the need of paper.

Habitat Loss

Habitat Loss is the affect of the process in which natural habitat is rendered unable to support the species present. In this process, the organisms that previously used the site are displaced or destroyed, reducing biodiversity.
1) Habitat loss is probably the greatest threat to the variety of life on this planet today. It is identified as a main threat to 85% of all species described in the IUCN's Red List
2) Forest loss and degradation is mostly caused by the expansion of agricultural land, intensive harvesting of timber, wood for fuel and other forest products, as well as overgrazing.
3) The net loss in global forest area during the 1990s was about 94 million ha (equivalent to 2.4% of total forests). It is estimated that in the 1990s, almost 70% of deforested areas were converted to agricultural land.
4) n 1994, it was estimated that 37% of the global population lived within 60 km of the coast. Poverty, consumption and land-use patterns contribute to the degradation of marine habitats and to the destruction of the species that rely on them to survive.
5)Dams and other water diversions siphon off and disconnect waters, changing hydrology and water chemistry (when nutrients are not able to flow downstream). During the dry season, the Colorado River has little to no water in it by the time it reaches the Sea of Cortez.

Knowing how much carbon dioxide is released throught every day activates like driving a car and that we, humans, are the maine cause of global warming, I can see myself changing how i transport myself and change my ways to release less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Climate Changw is a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.
5 Facts:
1) Carbon dioxide levels have increased by 408 ppm in the past decade, causing an overheating of the atmosphere.
2) Global temperature have increased 1.8 degrees F since 1880. 1.8 degrees may not seem like a lot but during the ice age when the Northeast United States was covered by more than 3,000 feet of ice, average temperatures were only 5 to 9 degrees cooler than today.
3) A 13.2% decrease in artic ice minimum goes down every decade.
4) A decrease of 413 gitatonnes of ice sheets is happening each year. Data from NASA's GRACE satellites show that the land ice sheets in both Antarctica and Greenland have been losing mass since 2002. Both ice sheets have seen an acceleration of ice mass loss since 2009.
5) Sea levels are rising at a rate of 3.2 millimeters per year. Sea level rise is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers and the expansion of seawater as it warms.

Knowing how much carbon dioxide is released throught every day activates like driving a car and that we, humans, are the maine cause of climate change, I can see myself changing how i transport myself and change my ways to release less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
