Gothic Literature is present during the interaction between Mrs. Danvers and Mrs. De Winter in Rebecca's room. The theme of creepy or eerie settings and disturbing villains. I feel that Mrs. Danvers actions and emotions in this chapter are almost feverish or obsessive and it's a very unsettling feeling the reader is given by it. It shows how the loss of Rebecca has majorly changed and effected Mrs. Danvers. The feeling of knowing the one you cared for deeply being replace is horrible but the way Mrs. Danvers is expressing it is quite disturbing.

Psychological suspense is very much evident in chapter 14 as Mrs. Danvers torments the narrator with stories of Rebecca. It creates a timid tone and the obvious emotional distress the narrator feels makes the scene all the more intense.

Olivia--In chapter 14 there is a great amount of evidence that the narrator is in great distress and fear. She is haunted by Rebecca's ghost, and the delusions of Mrs. Danvers, who clearly believes Rebecca's ghost lives on inside the estate. In chapter 15, it is clear that the narrator is disturbed when Maxims grandmother goes on to demand Rebecca when she visits her. Maxims grandmother ill and emotionally distressed, and the feeling starts to rub off on the narrator.

Some evidence I noticed was when the narrator felt uneasy and was not really getting a good vibe from Mr. Favell. Especially because she did not know or ever hear about him. Then on top of that he came when Mr. De Winter was not there, and later said to keep his arrival a secret. Later we do find out though that this mysterious man is Rebecca's cousin, but why would there be any bad blood there? Later when visiting the grandmother the narrator expresses how the house does not look very attractive and doesn't seem as welcoming, but very well kept with a lot of maids all for one old lady. Although something that caught my attention was when Beatrice mentioned everyone really knows each other, and they don't really welcome outsiders. Could that be why the narrator is getting these bad feeling from everybody, because she is new and could be considered an outsider to some?

At first it started with romance but Mrs. De Winter is in fear of Maxim, because of how he acts and because of how releaved she feels when hes gone. All this stuff added together really gives her a lot of stress mostly emotional by how she wants to be like Rebecca and figure out what happend really.

It is also strange how Maxim was talking to Mrs. Danvers about Jack Favel but when The narrator says hi he doesn't mention it. It is a little creepy.

Cadence Keller - Gothic literature stood out to me the most in these chapters when Mrs. De Winter found herself in Rebecca's old room. The room had an eerie presence about it and the scene took a turn when Mrs. Danvers entered. We learn more about the relationship between Mrs. Danvers and Rebecca and she says strange things about how Rebecca's ghost is still in the room. Mrs. Danvers makes the narrator very uncomfortable and we now see Mrs. Danvers' creepy side.

Gothic literature in Rebecca occurs a lot lately in the past few chapters. In chapter 14, the narrator is put into emotional distress and a creepy setting as Mrs. Danvers is showing her Rebecca's old room. The creepy thing about it is how it appears that Rebecca had never left. The room had been kept up with very well and even still smelled of her scent. Mrs. Danvers was acting very weird toward the narrator and doing things such as gripping her arm tightly, and telling her stories about Rebecca and how she died. In chapter 15, the narrator and Beatrice meet Gran. When they meet her, it is a little suspicious because she keeps asking where Rebecca is and how she is doing. It seems that she had forgotten Rebecca's death or maybe wasn't told about it.

Sofia L:I think that in the chapters 14-15 there is a lot of Mystery and Fear. Because Mrs.Danvers when she walked into Rebeccas room to find Mrs. Dewinter in there ,and was talking about the murder of her and as she was doing that she kept digging her nails into Mrs. Dewinters arm. And then she blamed herself for it which i feel like she scared Mrs. Dewinter a little bit.And the whole setting of Rebeccas room was pretty no doubt, but the presence that she feel in there had a creepy setting. Also when she had lunch with Maxims grandma and then there is like a suspense when she says "what have you done with Rebecca"

Chapter 14 has elements of gothic fiction such as emotional distress. When Ms. Danvers is talking to the narrator about Rebecca and the past, it causes a lot of emotional distress on her, and the reader as well. Rebeccas room is also kind of an eerie setting, because it is a thing from the past that now seems artificial and makes the narrator feel very uncomfortable. In Chapter 15, there is also more emotional distress when the grandmother is complaining about how she has no idea who the narrator is, and is begging to see Rebecca because she was so fond of her and loved her. this causes a scene and makes the narrator feel uncomfortable, and upset how the past is always going to haunt her. There is also some physcological suspense at the end of the chapter when we are waiting to see why there was a fight between Maxim and Mrs Danvers, and wether Maxim was going to say anything about it to the narrator.

She starts to despise Mrs danvers even more. she also believes she just must dislike her so much "hate" is a word used by Mrs De Winter. In chapter 15, when Maxims grandmother, starts to slip and go back into the past to believe maxim is still with rebecca, is very much affecting mrs de winter.

She finds dressings gowns which emit a stale smell and then Mrs. Danvers walks in. She realizes this is rebeccas room. It seems as Mrs. Danvers had been keeping rebeccas room clean and furnished . This scene represents gothic literature because it has mystery and fear. This part of the book is scary because its as rebecca still lives in that room and her memory still lives around the house.
