1 / 1

Step 3b Writer : Romain Marchand1L Words : 273 words

The first document is a book cover from the novel “ The camel bookmobile “ <del>wrote </del>written by Masha Hamilton which depicts an African landscape. The second document is an extract called “ Taking risks” from the novel in the first document. This extract tells the story of Fiona who is preparing a journey to go <del>in </del>to Kenya but she is <del>worry </del>worried and <del>her mother </del>the members of her family too. The last document is an another extract from the same novel. This extract deal with Fiona who want to bring books for people in Africa because they’re illiterate. However Chris, her brother, thinks this is a bad idea. So now we will see if this documents talks about the travels.

Travelling abroad : a recent tradition ? (this is the key question for 3A...yours is : ready to go ? + you have to combine the presentation of your docs+ study of the key question in one text)

Nowaday a journey is important in our life because we have combinations necessary to discover the world. During the 20th century people coudn’t go <del>in </del>on hol<del>y</del>idays because <del>the works </del>working <del>were </del>was more important than <del>the </del>free time. People travel abroad <del>for feeling</del> to feel a new experience and unusual sensations. We can do a trip for <del>the </del>volunteering like Fiona who is helping the illiterate people because we can find a sense in our life, it can be amazing. Furthermore we can discover new cultures, learn new languages, meet new people and find a job. (Yet : how can she get well prepared to face these various discoveries ?)

Notwithstanding travelling abroad is not systematically a recent tradition but rather an occasion. In <del>the </del>document 2, the trip in Africa is perilous because we have many<del>’s</del> diseases like <del>the </del>Malaria, the population is poor. Sometimes, the trips are dangerous and it includes risks (what are they ?). And so, the travels cannot be a recent tradition because the conditions are primary. (What do you mean ?)

Therefore, <del>the </del>travelling abroad can be a recent tradition if it’s beneficial in our life.

The first document is a picture in which we can see a woman facing away, an open book, camels and a tree. The landscape looks like Africa and I think the document is actually a book cover since we can see the name of an author, Masha Hamilton, and a Title, The Camel Bookmobile . Also, we can see the words ''a novel'' written on the top right-hand corner.

The second document an extract from the <del>book </del>novel which <del>talks about</del> deals with taking risks while travelling <del>to </del>in foreign countries. In <del>there </del>the excerpt, the main character, Fiona also known as Fi, is packing her stuff for a travel to Garissa in Kenya, certainly to make volunteering and to bring books to an illiterate population. Her <del>Friends </del>family tells her about the dangers of a such journey but she doesn't care about it, she just want to be useful and this is not going to stop her mission.
(How can she prepare her family to her absence/to the trip ? How can she be ready herself ? You should have developed...)

People can have many reasons tout travel abroad : work, volunteering, holidays... But it's not something new. People have ever travelled to foreign countries for different purposes but always with an interest for other cultures.
