You will meet regularly with your preceptor for support meetings that are documented on Xapimed to help create objectives and development plans for you to be supported to develop in your area.

Element 2
Complete frequent Support meetings with your preceptor. These will be documented on Xapimed to help chart your progress. These will include a  well being check in and help you create your development plan for the next 12 months. Please see the Xapimed column on how to access the templates

The Leeds Preceptorship Programme is a period of 12 months of support offered to all newly registered practitioners or those new to role. The aim of preceptorship is to ensure you gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to transition from novice to autonomous professional to settle into your team and role at LTHT.

We have developed The Leeds Preceptorship Programme to help support those newly registered and new to role to thrive at LTHT. 

A review undertaken by Health Education England in 2014 claimed that newly qualified nurses and nurses nearing retirement age are likely to leave. ‘Stress and burnout are particularly high in young newly qualified nurses, where turnover rates tend to be high in the first year of qualification. A King’s Fund study reported in The Guardian (Campbell, 2020) reported that the number of nurses and health visitors leaving their posts in hospitals and community services in England during 2019/20 was 28%.  

During the period of April 2022 - April 2023 LTHT saw 39% of their band 5's leave LTHT to seek employment elsewhere or leave the nursing profession. The last few years have been challenging, so LTHT has worked with CSU's using NHS preceptorship guidelines to develop The Leeds Preceptorship Programme.
