I would prefer using both authentic and coursebook materials. I would use authentic materials because sticking only to the books might cause the feeling among students that it is a lecture, not a real life experience. I want to demolish this idea and take the students out of the classes and coursebooks. And also I will use coursebooks materials because sometimes they are more direct and to the point. They are well organized and leaves no room for confusion.using them both will provide me a good average on both sides.

Developing active listening skills that I have learned from today’s sessions will help me a lot because listening is a skill which is in the hands of another speaker. We dont have the full control like speaking or writing. We must pay attention and not lose our focus. As students, whose focus spans are distracted easily in crowded classes, it will be harder. But as I have learned, giving them purpose, chosing topic according to them, motivating them in a group etc. was something I have disregarded. They will keep the classrom alive and focused. So, I find them quite useful.

There are many problems in my district related to speaking in my classes. First of them is that students’ unwillingness and shyness. They see speaking as a burden that they must avoid and they also think that they will be humiliated by their peers when they make a mistake. İt means I have failed to create a warm atmosphere. I will try my best from now on. Another problem is that, they see language as something coming from space. They have no common context, that is why they see it useless, no point in learning . Because they are unaware of its functions. These are the most basic ones.

2. Yes, I loved today’s outcomes. I will definitely use pair and group works. I will let them create their own worlds, characters or personas. I will draw the outline but they will be the ones who is really in charge. They will be free but monitored. I will be the listener and give them enough to create their individual speaking spaces. For differentiate, I have chosen the text above. To make it easier, At the 5th exercise, I will take the extra one out, so that students will not get confused. And for the 6th exercise, I will bring photos for every word and I will support their learning via pictures. It might help them recognize the words and match with their meanings. To make it more challenging, at the 5th exercise I will close all the questions and ask them “ıf I have to write a question for each paragraph, what will it be to sum up them each?” For the sixth one, I think it is challenging already.
2. Giving them purpose is the most useful one I suppose. Reading is a difficult activity you can get lost in easily. But with a purpose, they will know where and how to look at it. We will teach them not to read every single extra information. We will change their focal point. I think snack approach will be the most suitable one for my students. İt has a few reasons. First is that it is relatively easy and without fear of making mistakes they will feel more free. Secondly, they are using snack writing in their daily lives and it will be easier for them to turn these writing into a writing type rather than a long and wellorganized text.

İt should be done regularly and in a contextualized way. Those repetitions will help the students keep them in their midn and after a while it will move from passive vocabulary to active vocabulary when they insist on practicing.
2. Keeping vocabulary notebooks is a great way to personalize learning vocabulary. They migh draw some shapes or symbols reminding them of the meaning ot the word and by doing so, they will customize the word learning. We need to have concrete, solid materials to grade the students to load them to the system. Self or peer assessment types may be a bit difficult to apply. Also we have crowded classes. We can not create portfolios for each of them either because I have at least 300 students in our schools. Exams seem lractical but they are not a proper way to assess since there are many disadvantages. I am still thinking a way out 😁
Peer and self assessment can solve a few problems. İf I gave them a clear instruction and checklist to assess, it would save time and will no longer be tiring for the teachers. At least it will reduce the workload. Also for the students, they will be able to monitor their own progress and also have the opportunity to correct them on their own according to the guideline we give.
