In 1884, Thomas Edison hired Nikola to work at his fast-growing machinery company. They worked closely together to improve inventions and improve the company. Eventually, they moved separate ways due to their clashing personalities. Edison was focused on marketing and business, while Tesla was moderately out of touch and simply wanted to work on the basis of science. Tesla has this image on his phone to remind him of the past - what brought him to where he is today.

The Tesla Coil

The tesla coil is Nikola's biggest invention, created in 1891. It produces high voltage at a low current at a high frequency. This invention created x-ray generation, electrotherapy, another source of electrical lighting, and one of the first radio wave transmitters. (Today it can be seen in the popular 'plasma ball.' Tesla keeps this on his phone as a reminder of what he's accomplished, and the impact he's had on science and commercial use.

Again, Tesla worked with Edison in 1884. They fought over which type of electricity would one day rule the world - Tesla with an Alternating current, and Edison with a direct current. This feud would tear them apart to such a point they had to stop working together. Tesla was seen as a charismatic, witty man who spoke several languages. He was friends with people of great power like Mark Twain and John Muir. Edison, on the other hand, was introverted and not as in so much shape as Tesla was. Nikola must have this picture on his phone to compare himself, to gain a boost of confidence in the downfalls of his career. ( He might even print it out to throw darts at Edison's head every now and then. )

Just some peaceful classical music.
Nikola tesla was a busy man. In an interview, he was said to often listen to Morazrt and Bach, calling it "positive mental energy." Tesla most likely had little time for lyrics.

"But all this hypothetical thinking is digging me down and maybe I was seconds away, but it doesn't matter now"

Among his genius successes, Tesla was a big thinker and often had failures, as all of us do. He tended to embrace these just as much as he did his successes. For example, in 1899 he built a tower to test if he could transmit energy from the Earth's core. His notes come up inconclusive, but even then, he moved to New York, and by learning from his mistakes, he made some incredible breakthroughs. This lyric shows that sometimes, his thoughts drag him down, but that doesn't stop him. He listens to this to remind himself that he can grow from his mistakes.

He was a little crazy, though, and probably could have used a significant other.

Mark Twain was one of Tesla's best friends. Twain was a frequent traveler to New York, where Tesla lived. In the early 1890s, Twain became interested in Tesla's invention of the electric motor. He ditched his partner, James Page to work with Nikola. They often worked together, trying experiments and made good work of each other's intelligence. In this photo, Tesla (blurred in the center), Twain (left), and actor Joseph Jefferson (right.) They were working on a new invention in Tesla's lab, an oscillator, a machine that put out alternating currents of high frequency said to have therapeutic effects. Tesla has this photo as his wallpaper to remind him of his friend, and the wonderful clash of a relationship he has. Twain lived in Europe, so Tesla wasn't always able to see his closest friend.

As mentioned earlier, Edison was for a Direct current, while Tesla was in favor of his own alternating current. We can see here that this dilemma split them up - neither would back down for either of the electricity types. As it turns out, the Alternating current electricity succeeded and is still used around the world today. Here's an exerpt of a conversation between Edison and Tesla, arguing about the future of the world and its electricity use before they both went their separate ways. Maybe sometimes Tesla likes to look at these old conversations, giving him that boost of pride - he was the right one.
