The ibis is a bird made out of wood, bronze, and paint. This is very significant in Egyptian culture. Ibis is the most common animal along the Nile. Which at the time was one of the main ways why ancient Egypt was thriving. This bird is sacred to power. Not only this but to magic, science, and the moon. The Ibis decolonizes museums because of how broad of meaning it has. It is very popular for animals to represent power. However, the ibis also represents magic which in many cultures is something forbidden and bad. They are also known to be there for a burial which is one of the most sacred times in ancient Egypt. The use of material also helps show how important, the materials for this statue will last for many many years. The Estates Figure is a figure of a woman holding a basket on her head with various different things in it and also holding ducks by their wings. However, by the clothes and patterns, she has on you can tell that she is a very worthy woman. This figure was said to be found in an important chief tomb which was Meketre. This figure represents the strength and power women have. Women tend to be seen as dainty humans, however, she here proves them wrong. She has the animals in control and is carrying heavy objects on her head. At the same time wearing a dress and keeping the status she has. Her being in the chief's tomb represents progress itself. In ancient Egypt whatever was buried with you is what you took into your afterlife. For the chief to take the estate figure with him, shows a lot of faith he had in women. Which is something more cultures should be doing. As you come into this part of the museum you will see the mermaid of Warsaw. This brightly lit room presents this beautiful statue that stands in Warsaw that represents security and protection to the town. The mermaid of Warsaw shows that women are also strong, and go against many misogynistic beliefs in museums. Many cultures do not have a woman standing as protection so this is a truly remarkable thing. This being in this museum represents the power that women have, and the mental and physical strength they have even when other people tear them down. This is one the first of the strong women statues that will be seen in the museum, you will endure many more from other cultures as you travel along. Now we come to this part of the museum, here we see a beautiful mosque named Nasir Al-Mulk or what some people call the pink mosque. This mosque is extremely beautiful with extensive colored glass and displays other traditional features. The mosque is shown in the museum to represent religion throughout the world. Religion and art are deeply connected and many times religion is shown through art. The decolonization of racist museums starts today by bringing all religions into museums. And showing all different types of people, it doesn't matter what they look like. This mosque is a good representation of that. And is a super sacred place that people go to many times a day to pray. The beautiful jewelry shown above is the Egyptian revival bracelet. This is made out of rubies, sapphires, and diamonds. All very expensive and beautiful gems. The middle shows a woman who has a headpiece and wings on her arms. She is surrounded by birds on each side. The birds are representing her guardians. Women are seen in many different ways in the world, however in ancient times, especially in Egypt, they were shown to be powerful. These birds are representing protecting power because essentially women are the power. This is a very moving piece of jewelry because this is a bracelet women would wear, and it can always remind women how powerful they really are. Especially in a world where many times they feel powerless. In this part of the museum, we see a statue of Altas, which is half man and half giant. In Greek mythology, this is called a Titan. He helped lead a war against the Gods. As a result of that, he was punished to have to hold up the entire world. This is an important image because it represents how so many people feel every day. That they are holding up the world on their own shoulders. In many museums, there isn't a huge emotional meaning behind the statues. And is looked down at for having mental health issues. However, this one holds an emotional meaning for anyone feeling like they are holding the world up all by themselves. For those people, they can look up to Atlas because he too can get over having to hold the weight of the world. Lastly, we arrive in Columbia. This is the El Gato Del Rio, which was gifted by the artist. It is placed on the bank of the river and was given to make the area more beautiful. The main goal of this art is to reflect the personality of women and to represent the diversity that Columbia has to offer. This artwork is very special to Columbian culture. This museum encourages women to embrace their personalities and El Gato Del Rio is a perfect historical piece of art that shows that other cultures want women to be themselves. This art has a beautiful meaning behind it and more cultures should do the same.
