I never really thought about the explanation that the melting pot is asking people to give up their identity. I had always felt it was a way to show that everyone brought their own identities, beliefs, ideas, etc. to help shape America and make it the country it is. I never thought of the deeper meaning of "melting together" and thus losing one's original identity and heritage but it makes a lot of sense... Especially with the majority of citizens being white which would mean the melting would lead to being "more white". When they said that they label underwear as "nude" colored, how many people is that really nude for?
Also, one thing that I found interesting was how to respond to an individual who does/does not speak English. I can see some issues with the response of "we ONLY speak English", especially if it is through writing or messaging and not verbally said. Even then, I believe it can be taken out of context.
