In general, would your family be classified as formal or informal?

For an average American traditional family I would have to say I had a pretty normal upbringing. I was raised by both my mother and my father and am the oldest sibling. In general my family was formal in that we ate together, celebrated holidays together, and just spent good wholesome family togetherness.

Why do you think families in one form or another are found in every culture? And why do you think there are so many different forms of families?

I think there is a sense of nurturing built into human nature. In every culture we see some form of family. Although with lots of different customs. It all ties back to people protecting there own and a sense of needing to surround oneself with loved ones. The forms of families are altered by so many different factors such as location, customs, and ethnicity. All of these factors contribute to a modified form of the sense of family.

Was conflict dealt with in a direct or indirect manner?

Conflict was never handled appropriately in my household. there was sometimes an uneasy feeling after me and my brother did something we were not suppose too. There was a lot of passive aggressive moves made by both my parents and us, learned from our parents. conflict was not defused properly and left a lot of uneasy tension around the house.

How were you punished?

Because me and my brother would spend hours on the television our parents would restrict the time we were spending on it by taking it away. When we really messed up we would be sent to our rooms to relax.
the punishments usually received were fine as I never really had that strict of parents.
