In order for the state and commonwealth of France, we need to expand our presence in this world. We, as a people have been long left here in Europe, to fight like dogs with rest of Europe's inhabitants. We've used our resources here, there is nothing else left here to gain.

However, if we expand ourselves into the continent of Africa where there is nothing but uneducated, stick-bearing, non-competent people that are simply too easy to occupy then France would be reborn. We have the once and a life time opportunity to surpass the Brits and the rest of our competitors. There are bountiful resources for making goods; we don't have to worry about the natives for their "technology" for warfare is inferior to our rifles and machine guns, however i due time we can use these people for us, and the people of France. Imagine the armies, and the power we could have.

This can and sorta alludes to France's wanting-ness of power over it rivalries like Britain. France's expansion was seen as a form of opposition to Great Britain. The British felt threatened by it.

The source goes into detail of France's reasons and Motives of colonizing Africa between 1850 and 1915. During the consolidation phase the French were concerned chiefly with carving themselves a niche which they hoped would result in economic benefits. They sought to bring more and more land under their control. It was not until the early part of the twentieth century that their efforts turned to increasing productivity in the colonized areas.
https://www.africa.upenn.edu/K-12/French_16178.html

The cartoon depicts leaders of Europe dividing up Africa. It shows a man with a knife, and a cake representing Africa being sliced apart for the men at the table-representing European Leaders. This image just depicts how Europe is planning and is going to divide Africa for themselves. The probable opinion of the author was more than likely pro-imperialism. The author openly shows Europeans dividing Europe- I also notice the man cutting the cake has a Iron Cross around his neck, so maybe this was made to also glorify the newly established Germany.

If we look at a Graphic showing Fragile States on the continent, many of the states are highlighted in red and amber colors showing high instability. Yes, the parts France colonized are better off than a good portion of Africa; the affects it had on the NW of Africa is still seen today in the instability of the region. Its other colonies in South America and Asia are seen as "warning".

Conflicts in Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, and other Western countries notably hinge upon bad governance and corruption. For instance, in the Sierra Leonean war, it was identified that bad governance, corruption and poverty were the root causes of the conflict (Fithen 1999). Overall the regions conflict is pretty bad due to civil wars, terrorism, and again corruption. However, if compared to the rest of Africa, the region is again better off. As for Asia, Vietnam hasn't necessarily been the best off... They had a surge of communism in the '50s post WW2 when France reclaimed its colony. Ultimately it resulted in great civil war, and the U.S. got involved. Other than that, they've been "good".

French tried to convert Africans into citizens who understood the ideals of French civilization. To create citizens from uneducated Africans, the French employed a policy of assimilation which relied on white Frenchmen as teachers and models for African pupils whose object was to mimic French culture.

Not only did this serve the French government's need to demonstrate high moral purpose by "raising up the heathen," it also offered cost advantages. Africans, and Asians who wanted to become French were not likely to revolt, so the French could do without expensive military garrisons to maintain order. Assimilated Africans also served in the lower levels of administration, saving the cost of bringing Europeans to Africa to fill their positions.
