In my daily life, I practise 3Rs by:

• Bringing my own water bottle and containers

• Sorting recyclables at home

• Using reusable bags for shopping

What inspired me: Seeing how small changes can make a big difference in reducing waste. I started with just bringing my water bottle, and now it's become a natural habit!

Urban farming has completely changed how I think about food sustainability! When I first saw our school's garden, I was amazed at how we can grow fresh vegetables in such a small space. It's exciting to see technology and nature working together.

This year my school had a red packet collecting competition. I collected lots of red packets. My whole class collected the most red packets of the whole level. It was really fun.

At the start of the year, our school had a donation competition for red packets. It was very fun and I really enjoyed it. My class collected the most amount of red packets! I was really proud of myself.

In our everyday lives, many plastic bottles and many other un-recyclable items are being used and they will pollute the enviroment.

We should all try to reuse items and use reuseable containers and water bottles instead of disposable ones.

When I go to the supermarket, if you want to get a plastic bag, I have to pay ten cents instead of it being free. I think this a good way to reduce the use of plastic bags and encourage people to bring their own reuseable bags.

When Covid-19 came about, it was a disaster! People went straight to supermarkets like Fairprice to buy as much food as they could because they were panicking. Cause nobody could go out; no shipping of food from other countries. Everyone had to stay home so people panic-buy everything before the pandemic.

So to prevent this from happening again, Singapore started to grow vegetables and fruits locally. So if Covid-19 comes back, Singapore will be prepared for it!

Our school has a food donation drive to donate food to the needy people. We love doing this because we like to help one another. If we help the needy people, maybe other people will help us if we need it.

I use reusable bags instead of plastic bags when going shopping.

I bring my own reusable containers when going shopping.

Our school has a food donation drive where we can donate food and snacks to people in need.

Every year, we have a cardboard carnival held by the Primary 6's after their PSLE. They do it by using materials by using recycled items. After that they will come up with a recycled game for the school to play.

The thing inspired me by recycling items that we do not need to safe the earth.

Such as :

• A tupper ware when taking out food from a cofee shop

• Recycling our plastic bottles, cans as well as our toilet roll.

Our school grow vegetables to donate to the neighbouring in Singapore.We also recycled some red packets after chinese new year.

Our school organises a cardboard carnival where games are made of recycled cardboard by the primary sixes.

Something else our school does is a food disruption drill. Our food disruption drill limites our food options for a day and helps us be more flexible and less picky when it comes to choosing food.

Last year, there was a cardboard carnival and if we want to play the game we must pay $1 or $0.50.After the cardboard carnival all the money will be donated to some of the charities This year we had a red packet competition where by we collect as much red packet as possible, if the class collects the most amount if red packet. The class gets something as a prize for donating the most red packets. Surprisingly, our class won🥳.

Last year, I helped the community give out donations. I had lots of fun. I am very proud of myself.

In school we use recycle bins and also participate in food donation drives .Recently ,we have participated in a red packet donation drive as we can’t recycle them.

I think that sustainability is extremely important. In Singapore, we produce so much waste per year! I care about these issues because Singapore may become a landfill if we continue with our ways! I have joined E2K Science, which educates me about environmental issues. E2K Science helped us join a environmentally related competition which taught me a lot.Every day,instead of using plastic bottles,I bring my own water bottle. By using a resusable metal water bottle instead of plastic ones, I have saved the earth in a small way.Small actions make a huge difference!

I practise my three 3 ‘R’s- Reduce, Resuse,Recycle.

I practise them by:

I use reusable bags instead of plastic bags when I go shopping.

I use my own reusable container when I order takeaway.

I sort the recyclables at home and put them accordingly into the bins.

What inspired me: These are actions that everyone can do to help protect our environment. Although these action are small, they can make a big difference when everyone works together to do them.

Our school have activities such as donating food to all the poor people. This shows that we should help others and never leave a person in need. I have joined a activity where the P6’s donated food to all the poor people. If we help others, others will help us too in the future. Is good to give back to the community!

There was one week where we had food shortage. That week, I wanted to eat my favourite food but I was not to so I tried other food and it was delicious.

i practise my three ‘R’s reduce, reuse and recycle by :

i reduce the use of plastic or even paper by not using straws and bringing reusable containers for takeaway food. i also use reusable bags when shopping instead of plastic ones they have.

i reuse the plastic bags that i already have at home by using them to throw rubbish and into the chute.

i recycle by wasing plastic bottles that contents have already been drunk and dry them before throwing them in the blue bin.

Someone who is in our country was always add chemicals in the food or drink.Why do they do that?Because they want to save their money!It’s too abominable!So we need to check ingredient list（成分表，不知道有沒有打錯）.Check that if it has something chemicals like pigment、citric acid.

We can protect another one’s food healthy.But we need to protect ourselves first.

There are 2 key strategies that Singapore is working towards to enhance its food security:

• Diversification of import sources

  Singapore have diversified our food import sources from about 140 countries in 2004 to over 180 countries and regions in 2022.

  
  

• Farming locally and supporting local produce

  Local produce reduces spoilage, food waste, and carbon footprint, as the produce does not need to travel long distances or for long periods of time before reaching the consumer.

  
  

We can try to waste lesser food by asking for a smaller portion when we order our food. If we are at home, we can ask whoever is cooking to cook a lesser amount for us.

When we waste food, it is taking away the opportunity for people in need to recieve their food.

There was a week in school that we food shortage excercise. Some of the stalls in the school canteen were not sold such as meat and eggs. That we a good practice to the students in school to practice good food sustainability.

Singapore has planned to grow 30% of our food locally by 2030.

Although Singapore is a small country, we started to grow our vegetables vertically, instead of growing horizontally in order to save space and be able to grow more vegetables (vertical farming). The government also supported this initiative by allowing communities to grow their own community garden on the rooftops of their housing estates or carparks.

The government supported this initiative as to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imports.

Singapore grows some of its food locally and hopes to increase the amount of locally grown food by 2030. We can contribute to food sustainability by buying locally grown produce and buying only what we can finish. Singapore is also trying out new ways to grow vegetables in hydroponics to produce vegetables in greater numbers and even faster. We can also help by reducing food waste and adopting plant-based diets or buying artificial meat, as well as donating excess food to those in need.

In order for me to help to keep the earth green, I would always bring a reusable bag with me so that I don’t use the plastic bags.

This is called reduce, a part of the 3R’s!
