The British wanted to take control of the Hudson River during the battle to have a strategy to win the battle. The French saw that the colonists had a chance to win these battles so the French joined the colonists side. Pennsylvania
It's a training camp and the soldiers didn't really have the appropriate clothes for the weather. In this training camp, 10,000 men that were 30% Irish, 1/7 were African American, and other percentages for Englishman, Frenchmen, Polish and natives. The men in this camp has very poor conditions like being overcrowded or their food shortage and illnesses. Through this camp the Continental Army improved on discipline and organization.

The British got out numbered with the colonists having 19,900 troops while they have 9,000. The British would get in redoubts but the colonists would get closer and closer. First Major Battle
Massachusetts 
This battle was basically the colonists waiting for the British on the top of the hill and shooting at them with headshots easily but it gave the colonists a pyrrhic victory but the British surrender them and they won.
