I think that Byron acted sad because behind his tough demeanor/attitude, he really does have a heart and feels bad about his actions (even though he really is kind of a jerk.)

one contrast is when as soon as Byron was done throwing up he punched Kenny in the are
I think the reason he did that is because he was mad about the rotten apple that made him sick.

2. Byron is sad that he killed the bird which his brother Kenny was very impressed by.  I think the reason he did this is because he may seem like a bully or bad person but deep with in he actually has a heart and he cares for the bird.
