The Jazz Age: Saxaphones are the BEST

Jazz originated in the early 1900's in New Orleans. It was mixed from the 2 different types of music ragtime and blues. Music typically from ragtime but vocals from blues. The first jazz band was Joe "King" Oliver with his Creole Jazz Band. This was in 1918. 4 years after a man by the name of... ahem Louis Armstrong joined the band. He became one of the most talented and successful people in jazz. He, in 1924, joined the band of Fletcher Henderson. Despite being, arguably, the most influential person in jazz. Armstrong was not the only extremely successful person in Jazz, especially during this time when jazz was a booming musical industry. Edward ''Duke" Ellington wasn't just a jazz musician himself, but he also conducted a jazz orchestra. He was very well one of the most talented composers of the 20th century. These are just some of the many talented and influential people in Jazz during its golden age.

Many have started to protest women being discriminated against. This mostly started back during the War to end all Wars when women and Blacks started to move into factory jobs in the United States while the men were out doing the fighting. Women were held to the same work expectations as men but weren't paid the same wages. And even though they did their work well and with pride, many were fired upon the war's end and most of the men's return home. This caused even more outrage because most women did the same work and were fired for no other reason than their gender. Many are angry about this and it doesn't look like they want to calm down anytime soon. Many women took to new ideals such as the Flapper. Women who took modern fashion to heart and started to become more assertive. They started to drink and smoke in public which no women would've dared do just a few years prior. Their attitudes on marriage also changed. Many people, not just women, saw marriage as a bond with equal partnership. (Though women still tended to stay at home and men tended to work)

Many women who took jobs were also mimicked by African Americans, who were not allowed to fight in the war, that also decided that the best way to help in the war effort was to work in factories producing products that helped the war effort. Another reason that African Americans from the south decided to move north is that lynching was still not an uncommon thing in most southern states. There were still laws that made it difficult for African Americans to vote. So, to many, moving north where the jobs were and less discrimination took place seemed like a pretty ideal situation. Not to mention the pay which was over double what most African Americans made in southern farming.

The new installment plans have helped the poor buy new things like cars and get nicer homes with electricity. While this is happening they also have to pay back for what they bought creating a vicious cycle of buying and selling. While big business is creating their new advertisments to get you to but their stuff the banks are trying to get you to have more money. The extra money comes at a cost higher than you may think. Watch out for these offers that may seem to good to be true. In a study farmers have been found to have just a meer 14% approval rate of the installment plans. This is because they used them to buy all the new equipment they wanted to produce the food you eat but this has made them make too much and the price dropped. When it was time to pay off their debts to the bank they couldn't pay and are now stuck with no money and cheap crops. Watch out for installment plans. They could ruin you too.

President Harding has decided that he would lend those Germans the money to pay back the French and Brits. He does this knowing that the Germans would be unable to do it on their own. But I ask you, loyal Roaring Times reader. Is it our responsibility to help the Germans repay their debts despite them being halfway across the world? The Germans are using the $2.5 billion to pay back the French and British on an annual schedule. Then we will get paid what the French and British get from Germany due to the fact they owe us money too. So in the end we are getting paid back with our own darn money. We shouldn't be helping those Germans because now we aren't getting our rightful payment from Britain and France back. The President also raised taxes on US imports to an astounding 60%. So that also makes it difficult for the French and Brits to sell enough goods to us in the stead of payment. So we are basically making it damn near impossible for us to get our money back. All thanks to our good ol' President Harding
