One piece of information that ended up being crucial to Wimsey's ability to solve this mystery was the news that Boyes' inheritance disappeared with Urquhart's poor investment in Megatherium Trust. This ended up being his main motive to get rid of Boyes.

Immunity to arsenic?

Wimsey ingeniously theorized that Urquhart could've developed an immunity to arsenic. He proved this by telling Urquhart he had slipped some in his coffee, causing Urquhart to confess. Our team of sleuths had no idea such immunity was feasible, so we dismissed all situations in which Urquhart shares a meal with Boyes. We noticed the cracked egg (which did the deed), but unable to carry the idea any further, we discarded it. Without the knowledge that Urquhart had been snacking on solid arsenic, we see where our leads had fallen short.

The source of the medical grade, powdered arsenic. This guy helped the police attach Urquhart's purchases of arsenic to the megatherium crash, thus connecting the means to the motive. None of the characters in the book could've guessed this is where the arsenic came from - the foreign chemist didn't even get a name.

The Real Will

With the help of Miss Climpson and the ghosts of Miss Booth's past, Wimsey was able to get his hands on Wrayburn's real will. Much to the detective's suspicion, Wrayburn had left her estate and assets to Philip Boyes, not Urquhart. This new information better clarifies why Urquhart felt the need to present a fake will to Wimsey; he knew the real will would be quite the motive to kill.
