Brayden Downing - Pay Periods Discussion Post

When looking at different ways that companies pay their employees, I do not feel like they are trying to deceive their workers by the way they pay them. I think the whole reason behind this is administrative costs, like if they made enough profit to pay out the employees the way the want to (weekly, monthly, bi-weekly, etc.). Another reason for this is the way they keep track of their books and their budgeting system. If there is only one person that does payroll, it might be easier for them to keep track of 2 weeks and then only have to do payroll 2-3 times a month compared to 4.

For daily pay, the worker gets immediate access to their pay and they can budget and cover expenses that are immediate. The company benefits by being able to draw the workers that need the immediate pay. For weekly pay, the worker has more frequent income for budgeting. The company benefits by keeping their employees loyal and honest and giving their money when it is needed. For bi-weekly pay, the worker gets regular income, that is easier to budget and track earnings. The company benefits by having a good balance between company cost and employee satisfaction. Finally, monthly pay, the worker gets fewer paychecks and easier budgeting as they get a month of pay to spend on the next month. The company benefits by having less company cost and simplified book keeping.

There is nothing really confusing about my paycheck, just the question of why the company chooses the pay schedule that they do?

1.	I don't think that there is any strong evidence to prove that companies are purposely trying to deceive workers by using bi-weekly or monthly pay schedules. In most cases pay schedules choices are driven by legal, administrative, and logical factors.

2.	Daily pay gives employees quick access to earnings, while weekly pay offers a more frequent income and stability. Bi-weekly pay balances consistency for workers with reduced costs for employers, and monthly pay simplifies bookkeeping while giving employees larger and more predictable sums. Some benefits of bi-weekly pay for workers are predictable weekday pay, can occasionally result in an “extra” paycheck, aligns well with monthly expenses like rent or utilities, and payroll is much simpler and more predictable in terms of dates. The company benefits because payroll is easier to calculate, and it takes fewer payroll runs.

3.	No, not for me. I get paid on the 6th and 21st of every month. The paycheck on the 21st is from the 1st to the 15th and the 6th is from the 16th to the last day of the month.

1)I do not think companies are trying to deceive workers by paying them bi-weekly. As a worker who gets paid bi-weekly, I believe it helps not only the employees with a budget plan but the employer/employers doing the payroll. Payday being bi-weekly or monthly can improve the flow of money management for the company.

2) Daily Pay: There is immediate access to their earnings, better budgeting for the workers. As for the company, it improves productivity and can attract more skills/talents. Weekly Pay: There is easy budgeting, and a lot quickly access to money when needed. As for the company, there is a lower turnover due to happy employees, and more employees enjoy the frequent pay which can boost job satisfaction. Bi-weekly: Being paid bi-weekly can help with a manageable budget and has a regular income twice a month. For the company, bi-weekly pay is less expensive than weekly pay and there is less payroll runs which could also be less administrative work. Monthly: For the worker, there is a simpler overview of monthly expenses/income, and less paychecks also mean less bank transactions. As for the company, processing payroll once a month is the cheapest option and there's maximum efficiency.

3) I do not get direct deposit at my job, so getting to see my paystub helps me a lot with having budget on such things. As for confusement, I was not too confused with my paycheck as I understood the words and understood how the pay period worked with each check. As I get paid on the 5th & 20th of each month. Pay period for paycheck ends on the last day of the month prior and pay period for the check on the 20th ends on the 15th. I had to understand my pay period as I continue to work there but stay living in Sioux Falls.

I believe that some companies aren't trying to deceive their own workers, because when looking at the biweekly and monthly payment, workers might get paid more. If companies are actually trying to deceive their workers for different paychecks, then the workers would not get paid much.

Daily Pay: Workers will get paid everyday of the week which is beneficial for the workers because they would have enough money everyday. The company would offer them more money. Weekly Pay: Workers will get paid once every week depending on which day the company can pay them. It's also beneficial for the workers because they can have a perfect amount of money. However, it would take a while, but also the company can have more paychecks. Bi-weekly: Workers will get paid once every two weeks. It's because it's less expensive and the company would give them a lesser payroll. Monthly Pay: Workers will get paid once every month so that the worker would have a more lesser income. The company can go easy on the workers by giving a perfect amount each month.

No, there isn't any problem about my paycheck because I get paid every week or sometimes bi-weekly, usually on Thursdays or the weekend.

I don't think that companies are deceiving their workers by paying them bi-weekly/monthly. Paying workers bi-weekly/monthly is easier for HR/payroll teams and companies with a lot of employees. With weekly/daily pay, it may be kind of tough for them to adhere to this because I feel it is easier to have to do it 2-3 times a month and/or once a month, than 4 times a month or everyday.

Daily Pay: You can get money right after working, you can choose whether or not to wait for a payday, and you're in less need to borrow. Companies like this because it attracts more workers especially when in demand. Weekly: Good for people who live paycheck to paycheck, easy budgeting, and motivates employees to work more. Companies like this because it also has high demands especially when getting new workers. Bi-Weekly: Consistent predictable paydays and more frequent than semi-monthly. Companies are more likely to adhere to this because it is less expensive than companies that get paid weekly and are frequent enough to keep employees on their feet. Monthly: These are easier to cover any mortgage/rent, helps budgeting for strict savers, and is consistent with monthly billing. Companies like this because it is the cheapest payroll system, good for salaried/high income workers, and good for long term planning.

There is nothing confusing about my paychecks. I get paid bi-weekly and it is most efficient for me because it helps me budget and not spend all at once. I like how much I make and it keeps me motivated to keep working especially because I love shopping and also have things to pay for.

1. I don’t think companies are trying to trick their workers by paying every two weeks or monthly instead of daily or weekly. I truly believe it depends on the pay rate the company offers its workers. A lot of jobs only offer fifteen dollars an hour or less. Employees view the job as unfair and treat their workers badly. Along with waiting and managing bills and high prices. While these are frustrating, they can be managed by seeking higher pay or budgeting effectively. Overall, while longer pay periods may be frustrating, they are generally not meant to deceive workers.

2. Some of the advantages for workers who get paid bi-weekly are a steadier cash flow. Along with everyday expenses, workers can avoid relying on credit. For companies, having a semi-monthly or monthly payroll can help them reduce processing costs and save time for HR. With the others, it has become more of a processing and a costly expense, with pay week being every week.

3. I get paid bi-weekly, so I’m not confused about my paychecks. I understand the amount I earn for each pay period and how it is calculated from my annual salary. Sometimes deductions like taxes or benefits can be tricky.

I don't think companies are deceiving people by not paying them daily or weekly. In my personal opinion, I believe it all depends on the pay rate and where they work at. For instance, my little sister works at Hy-Vee and I know that she gets paid weekly because of the protocol for that job. Although, some places do pay a little less than what the website says that they can get paid. If people are getting paid weekly, for them, it can be hard to manage the money.

Some of the advantages for the worker, when they get paid bi-weekly, they often to manage their money wisely and not to spend it. An advantage for the company is that they have to pay you your money ever other week(bi-weekly). Some people in this case get mad because either their bills are due that day when they get paid, or they just need the money for their kids, car, etc. On the other hand, an advantage of getting paid weekly is that you can pay your bills on time and have a little extra money. Some people don't like this cause it messes up some things that are going on in their day to day basis.

I get paid weekly, sometimes I get confused on why paycheck looks like that. I don't and can't get mad at my manager because she is the one who set it up, I think I just need to be more aware of the hours I work. I like getting paid weekly so then I don't have to try to struggle to manage my money when it comes to my bills I need to pay.

I think companies are trying to deceive people by giving out their paychecks every month rather than daily or weekly. If the employees are getting paid daily or weekly the paycheck is gonna look small and it's gonna look like they aren't getting paid enough for the work they are doing. When people get their paychecks each month they are more satisfied with the amount because it's a bigger amount.

I think the advantages for different pay models can vary depending on who the person is and what their beliefs are for this time of thing. Pay models for sure give employees motivation and determination to work harder and efficiently. Also gives employees greater control over their paychecks and the different earrings.

The only thing that is confusing about paychecks is how much taxes are getting taken out before you get your paycheck and also what taxes are getting taken out.

I believe it all depends on the type of work they do and what makes it easiest for the financing. For example I get paid every week because it makes it easier for my boss to see how long we were at jobs and helps him bill customers.

Advantages for the worker, I like getting paid weekly so I have a steady income every week and don't have to stress about waiting so long for a paycheck to come in. I could see if you get paid monthly you could look forward to seeing a lumpsum check at the end of the month that makes your pay stub look very good. A disadvantage of getting paid monthly is your gonna get taxed more because it will be a larger check compared to if it was bi-weekly.

There is nothing that confuses me about my paychecks. I have not noticed a difference between the two besides now with only weekly I have to spend my money a little bit smarter if I want to buy something that is a little pricier.

2. A big advantage for the worker is having to be somewhat smarter getting paid every week is that they have a chance to save more every week rather than once every month/two weeks. An advantage for the company is being able to keep the numbers saying this is how much we lose every week a bit lower rather than paying it in larger sums.

3. I have never been confused about my pay stubs or checks. I have all of mine direct deposited into my bank account and get the stubs delivered to my residence.
