Although i dislike him as a person, I can't help but feel bad for him. I don't think he deserved to be unwound. No one really deserves to be unwound. But i guess his unwinding serves as a punishment of the antagonist. Also, the the tree from chapter 62, with multiple different branches of different tree species attached to it serves as a really cool metaphor, as it represents people who have received unwound parts. It shows that they aren't themselves anymore. Their body is not their own. It makes me think back to Cyfi/CyTy, who essentially had the consciousness of two people in one body, and we saw how negatively affected his life was because of it. She gets sent to Blue Ridge Mountain to be with some family members she doesn't really know. And know she believes her wish just isn't gonna come true. But then she meets a new friend which is a stray dog and a kid in school named Howard, the dog captures her heart.
