The significance of music to the novel is it brings it more together. It makes the novel more rememberable because you will think of the song that was used. Music creates a unique mood within the chapters and reflects how the characters feel in the moment.

This song is by Paul Whiteman. It is heard at Gatsby's party while Nick is talking to Tom and Daisy about Jay himself. They discuss his wealth and how he must have gained it and Nick thinks about the possibility of another girl showing up and Jay falling in love with her instead. "Three O'Clock in the Morning' a neat, sad little waltz of that year" (Page 116). Fitzgerald included this song because it contains no vocals and has a nice, smooth feel to lighten the mood.

This song is sung by Fats Waller. a verse of the song Nick and Jordan are driving through NY together and she tells Nick of Gatsby and Daisy's past. He learns about their past relationship and how Jay has moved here to claim her back. "I'm the Sheik of Araby. Your love belongs to me. At night when you're asleep. Into your tent I'll creep-" (Page 78). Fitzgerald uses this song at this scene of the novel to show how Jay feels about Daisy since Jordan is telling about how he wants her love once more and forever. It influences the mood by creating more love tension and knowledge of what happened.

This is sung by Chris Barber. The song is used to represent Daisy and Jay's past days. It represents the south and that is where they both and lived and first met. The two had fallen in love in the south. "All night the saxophones wailed the hopeless comment of the 'Beale Street Blues" (Page 157). Fitzgerald used this song to show the courtship the couple experienced before their lives changed and lost connection. It makes the mood seem more sad since everything they had went away.

This song is a current one sang by Bruno Major. The songs connections to the songs used within the novel because its a terribly sad love song. It speaks of how the man wants the woman even though it is the second time they've met, he wishes to have her as his own. Daisy is taken by Tom when Jay comes back into her life and he wants her to be his again. "God, I wished you were mine- As your skin lit up- In the sunrise". All Jay wants in hsi life is Daisy. This song will convey the feeling of wanting someone you can't have.

This song is just an instrumental created by the Bootleg Boy. It contains so vocals or words within the song. It creates a calm, relaxed mood. This song is very similar to the other instrumental that is used in the novel. It lightens the mood and creates no tension within the air. It conveys the chill mood during the scene at the party. It gives the scene of the novel more importance on the words being passed to one another.
