Based on popular sayings can be said that Tatuapé originates from talk of hunters who were arguing about the convenience or not to hunt the Armadillo walk. Others say that the name came about when the residents of the lower part of the neighborhood, next to the River, they deal with the hunting of Armadillo at the high end, denser forest, said to be possible only on foot. Even though legends, one thing is clear, the region was inhabited by a large amount of armadillos. Abandoning these folk versions and answer to scholars it can be said that the word is of Tupi-Guarani origin.
