The battle of Cowpens on January 17, 1781 was an hour long battle that was started by an American attempt to cut off a British supply line. The British thought that they had the advantage several times when the colonists retreated. But they lost very badly because of the tactical advantage and planning of Daniel Morgan. The colonists killed 110 men, wounded over 200,and captured about 500. They only lost 12 men while about 60 were wounded. This was a major victory for the colonists.

Daniel Morgan, was operating about in the back country, I would say this is effective because it caused Tarleton to rush in. This cause the Americans to have an advantage because they had a position where it was hard to be attacked from.

The Americans were smart in battle because they knew that the British would form lines. So they put sharpshooters behind trees and ambushed the British from the sides with calvary from the Continental Army. This helped to create confusion because they were shooting at officers of the British calvary at the same time.

Tarleton led the British troops poorly. He did not wait for reinforcements and he decided to rush into were the Americans were defending. Americans outnumbered them and the British out ran their cannons so they did not have major firepower. He and 50 other people fled back to Cornwalis's camp.
