The poet riddles the lines with a sense of helplessness on India’s (as a landmass) behalf, and romanticizes the people who fought for Indian independence with the means of the theme of freedom. The poet specifically creates images that portray the most memorable feats on the behalf of Chandrashekhar Azad, Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh that justify their struggle and martyrdom.

As the poem progresses, I see the progress of our country. The poem begins with a sense of pity for the citizens of India. The 2nd stanza describes the beginning of the protests against the britishers. The 3rd and second last stanza shows the preparation to rebel against the Britishers and to fight back for our country. I also notice a sense of hesitancy in this stanza. Finally, the poem ends with pride, the citizens of India have fought, and have won. Just like Amanda says, ‘For there is always light’ just like India now basks in glory, knowing that our ancestors have fought to make India a better place.

The transition of time from past, to present and then future shows the growth of our nation. It depicts the dark past from which we evolved to explore a bright future in an aspiring present. The author uses several literary devices like repetition, metaphor, consonance, personification, transferred epithet, enjambment etc. to intensify the emotion of solidarity amongst the citizens. It also invokes ethos within oneself to finally help us realize what India's worth. The poem's incentivizing tone gives several other readers like me an insight to the actual capabilities of one country. I personally see the love and strength in sticking as a family through all the tough times.  India might be bruised, but I see a gleaming ray of victory in the future. The poem inspires a sentiment of patriotism which leads us to make our past our strength, and prepare for what the future holds for us. The poem invokes a sense of pride in readers as calling themselves an Indian. Happy Independence's Day! 

The poem begins with the realisation that all of our efforts have yielded a country that is ours. It then focuses on the benefits of unity for our country. India is a diverse country with multiple cultures and religions, but Amanda Gorman’s poem highlights that true strength is derived from unity, not discrimination. She also mentions that we must put aside our differences and come together for a better and prosperous future. Her poem also conveys that we must overcome our difficulties, form a brighter future for our descendants, and let them inherit a country better than the one we live in. The poem ends with a proud and patriotic tone as our country has finally been won back. It ends with “If only we’re brave enough to see it”, indicating that independence is possible only when we are brave enough to fight with.

As an Indian, I feel gratitude towards the freedom fighters who helped free Indian from the shackles of the British Empire and those who helped rebuild it and turn it into the nation we know today.
