Holding the largest customer base in the UK, Tesco's actions can heavily influence the trends seen in buying habits and product success across all food retailers. However in recent years consumer's priorities have changed and the importance of quality at a good price is becoming more prevalent. This has welcomed the discount stores such as Aldi and Lidl. Another trend brought on by a change of priorities is convenience and this has welcomed online supermarkets such as Ocado and meal prep kits like Hello Fresh. All these influences have negatively affected the market share of Tesco.

The Christmas season is one of the most competitive times for the supermarkets and what often sets them all apart are their top ranges. Full of seasonal desserts, ingredients or even full courses. All promising to make our Christmases better than all the rest. This year Tesco are set to do something a little different by opening a wine bar in London stocked with their 'finest' wine, cheeses and Christmas treats. This opportunity is something that the other retailers don't have therefore steering more attention to Tesco and their range this year.

At the end of the TV advert, displayed is the exact same products and the price difference between the two stores. This type of blunt, to the point marketing, is what is driving consumers from Tesco to Aldi. This advert is embarrassing for Tesco as it claims low prices but is being shown up by the new market entrant.
