There are many factors that have decreased the internal validity of the pieces of research that we have studied. For example, in Cutler et al.'s research, there were many confounding variables such as sociocultural factors that could have influenced the intimate or sexual behaviors in the participants.

The vomeronasal organ is the organ that detects pheromones and is present in other mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, but not humans, who often possess a vestigial structure that is not attached to the olfactory bulb, or is not present at all. Thus, this could suggest that some evolutionary drive has caused humans to not possess or not have use for this organ, thus supporting the lack of human pheromones.

There are evidence but with many limitations and the process of scent detection being really difficult to study there is no clear proof of influence. For example, referring back to the Cutler (1998) even though the data seems to improve with the group that used the product it didn't work for everyone + it wasn't reliable due to the risk of bias or change in behavior due to relying on the after shave.
